C. J. Connolly writes post-apocalyptic fiction that is mostly about families.

His first novel, Crimson Sky, opens at 11:24 on a Tuesday morning, when an artificial intelligence takes down the power grid and does not give it back. A police officer named Declan Calloway starts walking home to his wife and three children. It is less a book about the collapse than about the people in the kitchen afterward, arguing about breakfast while the world ends outside.

The series is called The World It Left. The second book, Dark Harvest, opens on Day 45.
