10 Productive Ways to Spend Your Quarantine

One of my favorite quotes is "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade." I think that's what we're all trying to do during this difficult time. Here are 10 ideas to get you started.

1. Get in touch with a higher power.
For me, this is God. I've been making it a point to read my Bible and pray each morning. I want to make a habit to speak to God throughout my day and listen for His guidance. The higher power you serve may be different from mine, but the same concept applies.

2. Get in shape.
The gym might be closed, but that doesn't mean you have to stop working out. Exercise is as good for your mental health as it is for your physical health, so log in to YouTube, and find an equipment-free workout to get your blood pumping.

3. Learn something new.
I've been wanting to learn a second language for years, and have been putting it off for just as long. Now, I no longer have the excuse of not having enough time to study, so I've been working on learning Spanish for just a couple of minutes everyday. Yo practico todos las dias.

4. Journal
One of my 2020 goals was to journal everyday, and I'm proud to say I stuck to it. Writing in a journal is a great way to process your thoughts and feelings, and the possibilities are literally endless. You could start an art journal, a bullet journal, or maybe a combination of both. We're living through a historical event. Someday, that journal entry you wrote about how empty the bead aisle was at the supermarket could be used as a primary source in a history class.

5. Get cooking.
Since there's no way I'm going anywhere near a fast-food place until at-least June, I have been trying my hand at the culinary arts. I'm getting so much more confident in the kitchen, and developing a necessary skill. Maybe I'll even try out some new recipes next week. If your local grocery story offers grocery pick-up or delivery, please make use of it.

6. Get yourself together.
I started a new job this year, and suddenly had next to no time to take care of my hair, skin, or nails. Now, I actually have the time to break the bad habit of putting my grooming on the back-burner. I've been taking better care of my hair, trying out some different makeup looks, I just ordered some nail supplies on Amazon, and my skin has never been clearer.

7. Declutter / Clean
Now is the perfect time to go through your things, and decide what you want in your life and what you don't need to keep around anymore. Go through your clothes, cabinets, and yes, even the dreaded phone photo gallery, and purge away! Also, it's spring, which means spring cleaning, so take this quarantine as a blessing in disguise, clean whatever you've been avoiding looking at since you cleaned it last spring.

8. Create something new.
This blog is one example of what I mean by creating something new. Another one is the novel I just started posting over on Wattpad. I've had the idea for this book series in my head for so long, and now, I'm finally putting it down on paper. Check it out here - https://www.wattpad.com/story/221981488-sparks-shadows-forestview-academy-book-1

9. Do some professional development.
I have to believe that this pandemic will eventually end, and life as we know it will resume. When that happens, I want to be ready to step back into my career as a teacher as if I never left. I actually want to be twice the teacher I was last year (my first year). For me, that means improving my lesson plans and being honest with myself about things I need to work on to make sure that my students reach their full potential.

10. Waist time productively.
What I mean by this is that we all need a little down-time. My advice to you would be to spend yours reading your favorite genre of book, or getting lost in a fun series on Netflix rather than lying in bed all day depressed about the state of the world.

Hi; I'm Jessica. In a nutshell I'm just a hopeless romantic with a wandering mind and a big imagination who's grateful to God for her gift of storytelling. I've been blessed with a mind and imagination inclined toward all things artistic, so I think a creative career was always meant for me. I've been writing since I was a kid, but I didn't start seriously contemplating becoming an author until I was in college. I followed my dreams, and the rest is history. Thank you guys for all your love and support.

Heartnapped: Rossi Mafia Series Book 1

Heartnapped: Rossi Mafia Series Book 1 by Jessica N. Lane     Jayla Simmons never imagined herself working in a place like Vice, but what's a girl to do when she has a child to support all on her ownH? Her disdain for the place isn't limited to her occupation. Her boss, Carter Rossi, has had a strange fixation on her since she started dancing at Vice, and though she's reluctant to admit it, she's drawn to him as well. Carter Rossi is tired of the cat and mouse game he's been playing with Jayla's since the day she walked into his club. The son of Don Antonio Rossi has been denied few things in life, and Jayla Simmons will be no exception. He'll have her by any means necessary.

-Excerpt-

I killed the engine, and braved the cold, not looking forward to climbing the two flights of stairs to my apartment. I scurried over to the bottom of the first flight of stairs, and reached out to grasp the railing. Instead of the frost-covered, metal rail, my hand came in contact with another hand that was much bigger than mine, and protected from the cold by a glove. I was then yanked away from the staircase, another gloved hand covering my mouth before I could scream. I fought futilely as my attacker pulled me into the stairwell; the sting of tears came, unbidden, to my eyes.

"Forgive me, Jayla," was whispered into my ear before I felt a sharp pinch in my arm, and the world went black.

The fog of sleep began to dissipate, taking the numb feeling that had settled in my limbs with it. I opened my eyes to a scarlet canopy overhead. I sat up quickly, and almost instantly regretted it. My brain seemed to bounce against my skull, causing me to grip the sides of my head in an effort to quell the pain. I felt a pair of arms wrap around my shoulders, and shoved them away with a small cry of fear.

"Jayla, it's me," Carter Rossi' voice called out to me.

Confusion, was what I felt initially. Where was I? why wasn't I at home, and why was Carter Rossi here holding me? I tried hard to conjure up images of my most recent memories. Images quickly flashed in my mind; each of them vague as if they were scenes from a movie I d recently seen instead of my own memories. I saw myself parked outside my apartment building. I watched as I hurried toward the stairs, and then I felt the bone-gripping terror as I was grabbed. The last thing I remembered was the prick of a needle, and then darkness.

"You drugged me," I accused in a small, disbelieving voice. It was the only explanation.

"It was just a mild sedative, I promise," he vowed.

"Who does that? What's going on? Why am I here?"

He reached out to touch me again, but I just scooted farther away from him.

"You better not have done what I think you've done, Carter Rossi."

"I didn't do anything, except finally take what was mine," he said taking a step closer.

"You re completely out of your mind," I accused, and surreptitiously started backing toward the bedroom door.

"Don t bother with the door, Jayla. It s locked, and I have the only key."

"Mr. Rossi, this isn't funny."

"I agree, Jayla; there s nothing funny about offering your heart to someone only to have them repeatedly discard it like it's garbage," he practically snarled.

"Mr. Rossi, please-" The rest of my plea was interrupted by Carter rapidly advancing on me. My feet automatically carried me backwards until the door halted my retreat. His hands quickly flew to the door behind me; his palms were flat against the wood, one hand on either side of my head.

"Carter," he commanded. "My name is Carter, Jayla. Say it!"

I swallowed my yelp of distress; I refused to show him even an ounce of fear, and stared boldly into the azure depths of his eyes. "Did you rape me, Carter?" I asked while practically spitting his name in disgust.

He recoiled as if someone had slapped him. I wouldn't have believed the amount of hurt and sorrow in his eyes if I hadn't seen it with my own. "Jayla, I would nev- could never hurt you like that. You are my life," he vowed.

"Stop that! Stop saying things like that. I want to leave; now! I want to go home!" I ranted, while walking away from him to sit back down on a chaise lounge that sat against the wall.

"You are home," he said with a level of conviction that made me doubt my own.

"How long was I out?" I asked as I absentmindedly scraped my nails across the injection site on my arm.

Instead of answering my question, he took my arm gently in both of his hands and examined it. "I'm sorry for this,"

I nodded my understanding. "So, what happens now?"

"Now," he drawled, "I make you fall in love with me."

"Good luck with that," I snorted.

"I won't need it." Get it on Nook& Kindle

Rooted: The Mythic Chronicles Book 4
by
Jessica N. Lane

Synopsis
With the summit of the four fae leaders looming, the last thing Claire expects to encounter at the abandoned palace of her ancestors is... people. What was once the grandest structure in all of Faega, and is now known as the ruins, stands inhabited by her father's older brother who embarked on a journey of self-imposed banishment after losing the duel for her grandfather's throne after he was slain by Kaydair of the dark fae. The reception the man that looks so much like her father, but behaves so differently, gives her, her brother, and her companions is... less than warm. Not only that, but her uncle has a daughter, a talented wielder who seems intent on showing Claire up at every turn, and proving herself to be the rightful princess of the western kingdom. The mistrust and aggression between the two brothers and their offspring only increases with the arrival of the other dignitaries for the summit to solve the dark fae problem. What will befall Claire and her loved ones when family members become foes? One thing is certain; a tree can only go as high as it does deep, and the tree of the western house is rooted in resentment, jealousy, and betrayal.  Get it here! AmazonBarnes&Noble

Not to mention the fact that she still has a lot to learn when it comes to her new powers.
