Be Proactive! Be-Be Proactive!
My first order of paperbacks came in today - 39 lbs worth of the crazy that trickles out of my fingertips (i.e. 50 copies of The Energy Room).
I visited three stores in my area to see if they'd be interested in carrying it.
Three stores in my area now carry it.
(Mansfield, OH) Holly's Book Rack, Main Street Books, and The Realm Comics & Books.
I'm beyond excited. I'm beyond ecstatic. I'm at the point where I can't even comprehend all of the feelings I'm experiencing, and am just sitting here blankly, incapable of expressing emotion, because no expression could do this feeling justice.
That, plus I've been awake for somewhere around 24 hours.
Apparently, I get things DONE when I'm exhausted.
Good to know.
Please excuse me while I fall into a joyful coma.

We, the Rejects
We all experience rejection at some point in our lives.
If you haven't... you're probably in denial.
Some of us experience it more than others. The weirdos, the nerds, the outcasts...
As a 14 year old with green hair, and a lot of black clothing, I like to think I was just preparing myself for the rejection that would come later in life.
Being laughed at and shunned by the "popular" kids in school is really pretty small potatoes in the grand scheme of things (by the way, small potatoes are delicious when roasted with garlic and olive oil) - but it does thicken your skin, and it gives you a different outlook if utilized properly.
Of course, it could go a couple different ways. You could become a cynical pessimist (been there), who ultimately despises the human race, or you could use that rejection to fuel your appreciation for the people who don't treat you like a bullfrog.
I eventually chose the latter.
I started losing my train of thought here - I became distracted, watching my cats declare war on a fly.
Whats the point of this post?
OH RIGHT! Rejection as a writer.
It's going to happen.
If you write a book, and wake up the next morning with a million dollars in the bank, and reporters on your front porch... Well, The Ministry of Magic would probably have something to say about how you're using your wizarding skills.
Unfortunately, it just doesn't work that way.
Success is almost always preceded by rejection, and copious amounts of it. You can't let it get to you. That goes for ANYONE pursuing a career in the entertainment industry - writers, actors, musicians, artists - there will be a lot of people who tell you no.
Just keep trying. If you really believe in your work, eventually someone else will too.
It only takes one "yes".
That "yes" is out there, you may just have to sift through countless "no's" before you find it.
