“Reviewed By Demetria Head for Readers’ Favorite

Case in Truth by Emily Camp is a gripping and emotionally charged mystery that takes readers on a thrilling journey through secrets, lies, and the relentless pursuit of the truth. This novel is a blend of suspense, romance, and coming-of-age elements. At the heart of the story is Zoe, a responsible and compassionate young woman who finds herself entangled in a web of deception when her long-time crush Case becomes the prime suspect in a homicide. Zoe is determined to prove Case’s innocence, despite the risks and challenges that stand in her way. Readers will be drawn to Zoe’s resilience and her unwavering commitment to uncovering the truth. They will also be taken inside the complex and evolving relationship of Zoe and Case as their feelings for each other become entangled with the mystery they are trying to solve.

Emily Camp expertly explores themes of trust, loyalty, and the consequences of following one’s heart. The pacing of the story is perfectly executed, with a gradual buildup of tension that keeps readers eagerly turning the pages. As Zoe delves deeper into the investigation, the stakes are raised, and the story becomes increasingly enthralling. One of the narrative’s strengths is its ability to balance the plot with the emotional development of the characters. While the central mystery is compelling, the novel also delves into Zoe’s personal growth and the challenges she faces in balancing her responsibilities with her pursuit of the truth. Case in Truth is not only a thrilling mystery but also a coming-of-age story that explores the complexities of young adulthood. Camp’s writing is engaging and evocative, allowing readers to fully immerse themselves in the suspenseful atmosphere. Her prose is both heartfelt and thought-provoking, making this a compelling and emotionally resonant read. This is a stellar mystery that combines suspense, romance, and personal growth. Camp’s storytelling prowess, well-drawn characters, and skillful exploration of complex themes make this a standout in the genre. Prepare to be captivated by the plot twists and turns and the depth of the characters in this unforgettable novel.”

What is Hidden Review

Author’s new book receives a warm literary welcome.

Readers’ Favorite announces the review of the Romance – General book “What is Hidden” by Emily Camp, currently available at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B8RJQFKH.

Readers’ Favorite is one of the largest book review and award contest sites on the Internet. They have earned the respect of renowned publishers like Random House, Simon & Schuster, and Harper Collins, and have received the “Best Websites for Authors” and “Honoring Excellence” awards from the Association of Independent Authors. They are also fully accredited by the BBB (A+ rating), which is a rarity among Book Review and Book Award Contest companies.

“Reviewed By Cecelia Hopkins for Readers’ Favorite

What is Hidden by Emily Camp tells the story of five childhood friends reunited as adults. Maddison James finds her emotions triggered when Nick Cafferty returns to attend Gage’s wedding to group outsider Kylee. Hayden Wallace intends to propose to Maddison, but her priority is the well-being of her son, Braxton. Hayden’s sister Heidi is tired of her long string of romantic flings. During middle school, the group supposedly undertook a pact never to date each other, but somehow, they have all broken that resolution. As Gage discovers his marriage is contracted on shaky ground, his freedom threatens to expose all the secret love triangles.

What is Hidden by Emily Camp combines new adult concerns with emotional drama. I was able to sympathize with Maddi; her emotions seem genuine, and whatever mistakes she had made, she is determined to make a good life for her son. Hayden became less likable as the story progressed, but I still wished him well as one of the original group. Heidi shows the most character development although I hoped she would make her mind up and not wait for a crisis to stop her from hedging her bets. Gage seems like a genuinely lovely guy who has been trapped by circumstances. I thought Nick was personable, but a bit clueless fluctuating between women he had slept with. Waiting for the truth to emerge created suspense that will last beyond this volume. What is Hidden by Emily Camp oozes with dramatic irony and reminds me of a daytime soap opera!”

Written in the Stars Anthology Spotlight: Emily Camp

Stars Books & Tea

Written In The Stars Author: Emily Camp

Interview With Emily Camp:

Tell us what prompted you to start the series?

Be as detailed as you want. Actually when I wrote this one it was book 2. But these were my first attempts at writing novels so I ended up scrapping book 1 and making this book 1 instead. I hadn’t even planned on it being a series either at first just wanted to write a story that inspired by was real. As I worked on this book I was also rewatching a favorite tv series of mine, One Tree Hill and it greatly influenced the story. Running Back is faith based, but it is not sugar coated by any means. I wanted it to be relatable.

How did you feel as you were writing the first book?

I wrote the first draft of this book during Nanowrimo in 2012. It…

Writing Update

I have some exciting new projects in the works. It’s been two weeks since Campnanowrimo. As most of you may know, I always try to participate in Nanowrimo events in November, April, and July. For those of you who don’t know, Nanowrimo is a site and a challenge where one is challenged to write a book in a month. There are different goals that can be made for each individual, but I always go for the 50,000 words in 30 days.

In April I wrote a YA romantic suspense about a girl who is being stalked by her ex-boyfriend. I am excited to get to draft two and lots of ideas on how I’m going to improve on it already. The working title is Obsessed, but that may change as it comes together more in later drafts.

Once I finished with Obsessed’s rough draft I began to look at my Nanowrimo project from November. This one is more of a drama. It follows a group of 20 somethings that were best friends in high school and have just recently reunited, however each one of them has a major secret. With this particular story I have decided that it would be best for the new Vella platform on Amazon. Vella is a serial fiction app and will be launched in July. The first three chapters will be free then after that the reader can pay to read each chapter. I already have the first two chapters ready to go and hope to have several available before the launch of this app.

On to audiobooks, A Homecoming to Forget had a couple issues with the audiobook and my producer had to go back and fix it, we’re in the process of making those changes now and hopefully that will be available soon. The audiobook of Sydney’s Last Night is also in production.

In addition to the project mentioned above, I have another YA hate-to-love romance that may only need one more draft before I’m ready for the editing process. I hope to get this one out later this year.

There are so many exciting things happening with my writing this year and I cannot wait to share it all with you.

Sydney’s Last Night Excerpt

Today marks one week until Sydney’s Last Night releases. It has been an exciting journey and I hope everyone enjoys Pierce’s story as she discovers what really happened to her sister.

Mornings were a harsh reminder that it hadn’t been just a terrible nightmare. The first thing I saw every day when I woke was the painting on the wall. Bright red, large flower against the light grey background. Just like the scarlet blood that had stained the sheet covering her lifeless body. I wasn’t sure why I’d left the painting on the wall. I could have taken it down. I’d had three years to do so. But if I kept this room the same as it was when she was alive, a part of her still lived on.

I’d left the curtains open last night. Some days the bright sunlight was too much, but not this dawn. It was grey and dreary, the kind of day that made me want to stay in bed. The tree outside the window had yellow leaves that fought to hang on in the hailing October wind as the claw-like branches screeched against the glass. In just two days it’d be three years since my aunt woke me from my sleep in the middle of the night to tell me. Three years since we drove up to the flashing red and blue lights. Three years since I talked to my best friend, my idol, my big sister.

Some days it felt like it had been an eternity, others like yesterday. But everyday knowing that I’d never talk to her again was a weight pushing me down, almost crushing me. We’d never have a late-night chat about our futures again or talk about Mom and Dad. Memories of them died with her.

Sydney’s Last Night will be available on Kindle Unlimited and in Paperback on April 6th. The Audiobook is currently in production.

What’s Happening in 2021

Aren’t we all glad to have 2020 behind us? It wasn’t a horrible year for me writing wise. I published Boy of the Week not only on Kindle and paperback, but as an audiobook as well. My first ever. I wrote three drafts of Sydney’s Last Night which I had written draft one during 2019 nanowrimo. The story is getting close to the finish line. It is out with beta readers and after I make some suggested changes, it will be off with the editor. Soon after that, it will be ready to publish. I also have another book that will be almost right behind it. With very little needing done to it as well, just a few more steps than Sydney’s Last Night. My goal is to have SLN finished and published by April. If I can do it sooner, that will be great.

I pushed the publish button for the audio version to A Homecoming to Forget yesterday, waiting on audible approval, but it should be out in the next thirty days or so.

I read 128 books in 2020, this is not including the books I beta read for critique partners. In 2021, I’m actually going to try to make that number lower. It was an accomplishment, but I need to be writing more. My writing goal is to publish three books total this year. The most I’ve done is two in one year. But I think if I cut back on the reading a little bit, I can fit more writing time into my schedule and crush this goal.

A little more about Sydney’s Last Night:

Sydney’s Last Night is a mystery about a girl who was killed. The police ruled it an accident despite not looking like one. In Sydney’s Last Night we follow Sydney’s younger sister, Pierce three years after the incident. Her only surviving relative is her aunt, who is determined to find out what really happened to Sydney.

The Books of Fall – Novels containing High School Football

Where are my high school football people at? For the last five years we’ve been to almost all of my kids’ high school football games. My son played his junior and senior years. Friday nights late August through November belonged to watching the boys of fall under the lights. Our team has been in the playoffs every year since we started attending, one year the even made it to the final four. Ten-twelve weeks, almost an entire quarter of a year we could be found at a football game on a Friday night, even driving as far as three hours to attend.

Though our state is allowing a football season this year, it is with restrictions. We were lucky enough to get vouchers to attend the first game of the season, against our biggest rivals. Another high school that is only a mile away. It is always a big event and packed out when there aren’t social distancing restrictions. But the season has been cut short by four games, and we’re not able to always obtain vouchers.

When I picked up the book Throw Like a Girl by Sarah Henning, I got to thinking about all the Young Adult books I’ve read (or wrote) to help replace actual football games. Okay, so they don’t really replace them, but the books will take you to games if you’re missing them.

Throw Like a Girl – the book that inspired this post. I’m only about halfway through it, but I’m loving it. The main character, Liv, is a star softball player, but she ends up in a fight that makes her lose her scholarship to the private school she’s been attending. She ends up going to public school, the same school that she was playing when she got into the fight. She tries to convince the softball coach to let her join the team, but the coach wants her to show she’s a team player before she allows it. So Liv ends up on the football team as backup quarterback. This is not just about football, but it also contains a love story.

2. Another girl quarter back is featured in Catching Jordan. It has been awhile since I read this one, but the author, Miranda Kenneally, is an auto-read author for me. Catching Jordan was my first novel of hers and I have been a fan ever since. What I remember of this book is Jordan is the quarterback. A new kid is on the football team who is just as good as Jordan and threatens to take her spot. Of course, there is a romance brewing in this story as well.

3. The Revenge Playbook is so much fun. Four girls who would otherwise not be friends find common ground in wanting to get even with some football players. These four girls band together and come up with ways to sabotage the boys who have hurt them in different ways. I love when a book can explore more than one main character and they are all completely different. This story had me laughing out loud so many times. It is not only funny, but also hard to put down.

Now a few of my own. I have noticed that I tend to set a lot of my stories during football season. In A Homecoming to Forget the main character, Sawyer, loses her memory after her homecoming dance. This story is set during football, and she happens to be dating the quarterback, she has no recollection of the relationship. Since this book takes place in the fall, Sawyer does end up at a couple football games.

In Boy of the Week we again see some pigskin. Kacey, the main character is boy crazy, so of course, she is found at football games, where there are boys. This novel takes place over the course of several months and includes a basket ball game and even a wrestling match. Boy of the Week has recently been released on Audible so if you prefer audiobooks, go get a copy and listen.

Finally, the Running Series. This series follows Garrett, a running back on his high school team his junior year all the way through college. Not only do Running Back, Running on Empty, and Running Forever contain football, but they are also jam packed with lots of drama and a little bit of faith.

So there you have it, several books to get you through this season if you enjoy football, love stories, and drama.

Are there any high school football stories that you’ve read that I didn’t mention? I’d love to hear about them.
