Hey there! I can speak on my journey here in the state of Michigan; other states might have some different requirements.
For me, I was able to get my 30+ credit requirements through my Masters program at Madonna University. I earned by Masters in the Art of Teaching (M.A.T.) with a concentration in Literacy Education. After that, I took a certification test (MTTC - Michigan Test for Teacher Certification) to get an extra endorsement as a reading specialist.
Currently, I am just using the skills I earned to make my students better readers and writers in the classroom. If I ever chose to leave the classroom setting, I the endorsement could get me a job as a school reading specialist evaluating students and creating/implementing improvement plans or as a literacy coach working with teachers on fun, new reading and writing strategies to use in their classrooms.(less)

Unfortunately, my favorite fictional couple is a tragic one, which might be why I'm still single.

I love the complicated relationship between Lady Brett Ashley and Jake Barnes in Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises. They are completely in love, but she requires a physical relationship ,and he has been made impotent due to an injury in World War I. He wants to be with her, but all he can do is watch as she dates literally every other guy but him. She wants to be with him, so she is entirely miserable with every relationship she has. They both take turns dreaming of each other and turning the other away. The novel ends with one of my favorite famous literary lines.

"Oh, Jake," Brett said, "we could have had such a damned good time together."
Ahead was a mounted policeman in khaki directing traffic. He raised his baton. The car slowed suddenly pressing Brett against me.
"Yes," I said. "Isn't it pretty to think so?"

On a happier note, Ron and Hermione are pretty great, too.(less)

2024 Reading Stats

I set a goal to read 70 books this year. Spoiler alert: I crushed it! 💥

✨ Mr. D’s 2024 Reading Wrapped ✨
Swipe through to check out my reading stats from the year! 📚

In 2024, I set out to read 70 books—and I crushed it with 80 titles! 🎉 This number has been my sweet spot for a few years now, and I love the consistency. While I’m team hardcover all the way, audiobooks have completely stolen the show. Read more of this blog post »

“Just because something is tough or difficult, it doesn’t mean that it isn’t possible. The challenge is what makes something wonderful when you finally overcome your obstacles. The sense of success that comes when working hard over time is much better than achieving a simple task. Don’t be afraid of a challenge when it can make you a better person in the end.”
