The strongest baby birds were being mean to their little sibling and had pushed him to the back of the nest. We were staggered at the care and attention displayed by the parent birds, who rooted him out and made sure that all the birds were fed fairly.

The series of photos that Steve managed to take showed the birds and their antics in amazing detail, and the little birds were so full of character that we just had to create a childrens picture book from them!

My favourite young childrens books are rhyming, so I wrote the little story in rhyme, and I wrote it so that beginner readers (including our grandchildren) would be able to read it themselves without too much difficulty. The feedback from young children and their carers has been tremendous, and that has made the effort completely worthwhile!(less)
