Geek, bookworm, author - batteries not included.

I was first published as part of the collaborative force behind YA Mystery "St Mallory's Forever!" in 2013, and also hold prizes for a variety of multinational short story and poetry competitions from 2006 to this day.

I graduated from the University of Exeter with a BA in English in 2016, and am now attempting to navigate the wide waters of the real world while grappling with a vast army of unfinished speculative fiction manuscripts, all clamouring to find their way onto the printed page.

When they do, you will be the first to know!

I really appreciated the quality of the prose, for all the piece was very short; there was a lot of subtle and informative detail and some really delicious descriptive prose.

The Lamenters have absolutely no luck in any other respect, but they were lu

More Trazyn is always welcome - and I really enjoyed the little glimpse into the higher workings of the necrons, their worldview (or lack of it), and of course all their glorious Space Skeletor politics.

Absolute banger of a final dialogue too.

A fun little romp! There's some absolutely zinger lines in here, for a story that took maybe 10 minutes for me to read end to end.

Honestly, I was a little disappointed that there wasn't more - this setup could be a great plotline for a full Cain stor

An entertaining little book, if a bit disjointed - I'd have appreciated, I think, fewer stories with a bit more focus; some tales or inclusions felt much worthier than others, and some were a little repetitive. ...more

I really, really enjoyed this book; eminently readable, generally well paced, and presenting a nicely balanced view of where historical record simply runs out of the material and the author has to list possibilities rather than being able to share so ...more

“I avoided Thomas Hardy because everyone should, and anyway, I was depressed enough.”
Jodi Taylor, A Trail Through Time

“If only this city’s entire population of lurking assholes shared one set of balls, so I could kick it repeatedly.”
Scott Lynch, Red Seas Under Red Skies

Robin Hobb
“Once I got away from him, I was smart enough to stay away from him. To hunt that one is as wise as to go hunting a porcupine.

I cannot leave this alone, Nighteyes.

I understand. I am the same about porcupines.”
Robin Hobb, Assassin's Quest

George R.R. Martin
“He'll be down with the books. My old septon used to say books are dead men talking. Dead men should keep quiet is what I say. No one wants to hear a dead man's yabber.”
George R.R. Martin, A Dance with Dragons

George R.R. Martin
“I think there are two types of writers, the architects and the gardeners. The architects plan everything ahead of time, like an architect building a house. They know how many rooms are going to be in the house, what kind of roof they're going to have, where the wires are going to run, what kind of plumbing there's going to be. They have the whole thing designed and blueprinted out before they even nail the first board up. The gardeners dig a hole, drop in a seed and water it. They kind of know what seed it is, they know if planted a fantasy seed or mystery seed or whatever. But as the plant comes up and they water it, they don't know how many branches it's going to have, they find out as it grows. And I'm much more a gardener than an architect.”
