Geek, bookworm, author - batteries not included.

I was first published as part of the collaborative force behind YA Mystery "St Mallory's Forever!" in 2013, and also hold prizes for a variety of multinational short story and poetry competitions from 2006 to this day.

I graduated from the University of Exeter with a BA in English in 2016, and am now attempting to navigate the wide waters of the real world while grappling with a vast army of unfinished speculative fiction manuscripts, all clamouring to find their way onto the printed page.

When they do, you will be the first to know!

An interesting topic, but I found the approach a little dry and overall underwhelming - I would have appreciated less of the minute (occasionally excruciating) detail in places, and a little more reflection both lateral and retrospective to put event ...more

I thought Sophia’s adventures could be fodder for excellent books many moons ago in a review for one of the Bruno novels. I am delighted to say I was absolutely right.

I had a wonderful time with this one - it’s dripping in fun, genuine love for its material and a unique, thoughtful sense of character. Despite a few wobbles that kept it from 5 stars, I will definitely be picking up the next instalments in the serie ...more

As ever, admirably readable, colourful, restrained in conjecture but well punctuated by humour and authorial clarity. My one complaint is that I would have liked more detail in places, though given the lack of contemporary sources this is more histor ...more

Jodi Taylor
“I avoided Thomas Hardy because everyone should, and anyway, I was depressed enough.”
Jodi Taylor, A Trail Through Time

Scott Lynch
“If only this city’s entire population of lurking assholes shared one set of balls, so I could kick it repeatedly.”
Scott Lynch, Red Seas Under Red Skies

Robin Hobb
“Once I got away from him, I was smart enough to stay away from him. To hunt that one is as wise as to go hunting a porcupine.

I cannot leave this alone, Nighteyes.

I understand. I am the same about porcupines.”
Robin Hobb, Assassin's Quest

George R.R. Martin
“He'll be down with the books. My old septon used to say books are dead men talking. Dead men should keep quiet is what I say. No one wants to hear a dead man's yabber.”
George R.R. Martin, A Dance with Dragons

George R.R. Martin
“I think there are two types of writers, the architects and the gardeners. The architects plan everything ahead of time, like an architect building a house. They know how many rooms are going to be in the house, what kind of roof they're going to have, where the wires are going to run, what kind of plumbing there's going to be. They have the whole thing designed and blueprinted out before they even nail the first board up. The gardeners dig a hole, drop in a seed and water it. They kind of know what seed it is, they know if planted a fantasy seed or mystery seed or whatever. But as the plant comes up and they water it, they don't know how many branches it's going to have, they find out as it grows. And I'm much more a gardener than an architect.”
