Geek, bookworm, author - batteries not included.

I was first published as part of the collaborative force behind YA Mystery "St Mallory's Forever!" in 2013, and also hold prizes for a variety of multinational short story and poetry competitions from 2006 to this day.

I graduated from the University of Exeter with a BA in English in 2016, and am now attempting to navigate the wide waters of the real world while grappling with a vast army of unfinished speculative fiction manuscripts, all clamouring to find their way onto the printed page.

When they do, you will be the first to know!

Another solid, enjoyable conspiracy-cum-mystery - unfortunately, I liked it less than the first. The cast of characters is wide and really enjoyable, with some fun and engaging historic and wholly fictional elements working in tandem, but the setting ...more

I should probably have known better - I like Weir's nonfiction well enough, but her historical fiction approach has never worked for me. The prose was disjointed and awkward, the dialogue was oddly ahistoric (practically modern in places) which clash ...more

An excellent read; as usual, the subject gets a fairly sympathetic light cast on him, and there are inevitable gaps or abbreviations in details of wider happenings because a book focussed on personal life can't contain everything going on politically ...more

Full confession: I did not finish this book. But, dear people of the internet, I tried. I swear on my life, my limbs, and what remains of my despairing sanity, I tried.

I'm sure the story is every bit as wonderful as the blurb promises. What little I

“I avoided Thomas Hardy because everyone should, and anyway, I was depressed enough.”
Jodi Taylor, A Trail Through Time

Scott Lynch
“If only this city’s entire population of lurking assholes shared one set of balls, so I could kick it repeatedly.”
Scott Lynch, Red Seas Under Red Skies

Robin Hobb
“Once I got away from him, I was smart enough to stay away from him. To hunt that one is as wise as to go hunting a porcupine.

I cannot leave this alone, Nighteyes.

I understand. I am the same about porcupines.”
Robin Hobb, Assassin's Quest

George R.R. Martin
“He'll be down with the books. My old septon used to say books are dead men talking. Dead men should keep quiet is what I say. No one wants to hear a dead man's yabber.”
George R.R. Martin, A Dance with Dragons

George R.R. Martin
“I think there are two types of writers, the architects and the gardeners. The architects plan everything ahead of time, like an architect building a house. They know how many rooms are going to be in the house, what kind of roof they're going to have, where the wires are going to run, what kind of plumbing there's going to be. They have the whole thing designed and blueprinted out before they even nail the first board up. The gardeners dig a hole, drop in a seed and water it. They kind of know what seed it is, they know if planted a fantasy seed or mystery seed or whatever. But as the plant comes up and they water it, they don't know how many branches it's going to have, they find out as it grows. And I'm much more a gardener than an architect.”
