Hi Cathy,
I found the novel fascinating. It is a richly told, multigenerational story that delves into a period of history I had little knowledge about. To read about the discrimination and intolerance faced by Koreans living in Japan after the Japanese occupation and WWII was eye-opening.

I think the novel will offer many pertinent areas of discussion especially about migration, displacement and the resilience and fortitude of immigrants as they try to find their place in an unwelcoming world.

“I could call it envy for what they had, but that would be wrong. It was more a sadness that already existed inside me, one that was illuminated by that kind of togetherness.”
Tania Malik, Hope You Are Satisfied

“The fourteen hundred miles between us allowed us to present our truths to each other in whichever form we desired.”
