My name is Michael Peter Smith and I have been told that I am a bit of a Conundrum. I am 50 years old (not that age is anything more than a number) and have lived my life up until recently without ever really writing. Over the past few years my life has undergone quite a bit of change. I worked hard for my whole life and then was unemployed for the better part of three years…while at the same time going through a divorce. I have a 7 year old son that I absolutely adore! In the process of being unemployed and going through an extremely expensive divorce I find myself at square one again. While going through my difficulties it was pointed out to me that I had lost much of who I was over the years. I wasn’t as carefree or adventurous as I once was…and really was not being true to myself…and who I am as a man. I learned much about myself these past few years and not all of what we learn about ourselves is always good…but it enables us to move forward and hopefully be better persons.

The one thing I told myself was that I needed to get back to being true to myself..and who I really am. As is written in Shakespeare’s “McBeth”…. “To thine own self be true” That is my new credo.

So as I was plodding along, trying to reassemble my life, I was telling a friend of mine about how I always had poems and sayings and phrases kicking around in my head and she pointed out that since I was committed to being “True to myself” I should probably start writing them down. This was at the beginning of March in 2013…it was about a week later when I wrote my first poem “She”. Since then I have been diligent in writing whatever it is that is bouncing around up there. In the first 5 weeks I wrote 22 poems…the following is a collection of all of the junk that has been and continues to bounce around in my head.

My heart and soul is in these poems…and some may even upset those that are near and dear to me…and for that I apologize and there is no ill will…just shared perspective and heartfelt sincere emotions within each one.
