Born on March 29, 1981, in Bornova, Izmir, his father’s family is from Senirkent, Isparta. He completed his primary education at İzmir Turkish College (ITK) and his secondary and high school education at Izmir Saint-Joseph French High School. He graduated with honours from Bilkent University’s Department of Political Science and Public Administration (English) in 2004, having entered in 1999. In 2011, he earned his PhD in Political Science from Bilkent University’s integrated doctoral program, with his dissertation “Portrait of a Turkish Social Democrat: Ismail Cem”, supervised by Dr. Berrak Burçak and judged by a distinguished jury including Prof. Metin Heper, Prof. Ergun Özbudun, Prof. Ayşe Güneş Ayata, and Dr. Nur Bilge Criss. Between 2009 and 2012, he worked as a Lecturer in the Public Administration Department at Uşak University. From October 2012 to January 2016, he served as an Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration (English) at Girne American University (GAU) in Northern Cyprus (TRNC). He then returned to Türkiye and worked as a faculty member and Head of Department at various universities, including Beykent University (2016-2018), Gedik University (2018-2020), Istanbul Kent University (2020-2023, 2024-2025), Istanbul Aydın University (2023-2024), and Üsküdar University (2025-2026). In 2018, he became an Associate Professor of Political Science and was first appointed Professor at Istanbul Kent University in 2024. Örmeci has numerous scientific books and articles published both domestically and internationally. He is the editor of some academic books specialising in Turkish Foreign Policy, including Turkish Foreign Policy in the New Millennium (Peter Lang, 2015), Mavi Elma: Türkiye-Avrupa İlişkileri (Gazi Kitabevi, 2016), Historical Examinations and Current Issues in Turkish-American Relations (Peter Lang, 2020), Turkish-French Relations: History, Present, and the Future (Springer, 2022), Cumhuriyet’in 100. In addition, Örmeci has written Turkish textbooks examining the political systems and foreign policies of countries such as the United States (U.S.), the People’s Republic of China, the Russian Federation, France, the United Kingdom (UK), Germany, the European Union (EU), Japan, and Cyprus. He is fluent in English and French. Örmeci is also the Founding General Coordinator of the International Political Academy (UPA), the President of the ESUPA think tank, the publisher and editor-in-chief of the UPA Strategic Affairs academic journal, and a European Studies expert at the BİLGESAM think tank. Prof. Dr. Ozan Örmeci's main areas of research are International Politics, Comparative Politics, Great Power Competition, Political Psychology, Turkish Political History, Leftist Movements in Türkiye, and Turkish Foreign Policy.
