It didn’t occur to me to write until I was twenty-two, prompted by reading a disappointing book by an author I’d previously liked. I wrote thirty pages of a story I abandoned because it didn’t work on any level. I moved on to a thriller about lost treasure in Central America; which I finished, but never showed to anyone. Two more went the way of the first, and I forgave the author.
After that I became more interested in people-centric stories. I also decided I needed to get some help with my writing, and studied for a degree with the OU. Hi Annie,

I no longer have a website, I'm afraid. When the original host company was sold, my site didn't migrate successfully, and I haven't created a new one. To be frank, I didn't think anyone would notice!

I can be lazy and avoid sitting down to write but I don’t feel that’s being blocked. Because I don’t write full-time I usually have notes and ideas that can help get me started, and as I find the first five minutes of any session are always the hardest, I’ll normally just sit down and use my notes to try and work through those. I also always have more than one story on the go, because if I’m devoid of inspiration for one I’ll get on with another. If I’m still struggling with everything then I’ll usually edit because, for me, that’s often the best time to do it. (less)

“She wondered what he might mean by 'speak'. She was unsure whether he really spoke in euphemisms all the time, or whether she simply imagined that he did, whether it was merely a symptom of her slow retreat from him.”
S.R. Wilsher

“Was he proud that you became a soldier?” “No, it hurt him deeply. He was very angry with me, in his own silent, simmering way. “During the war I did what was expected of me when I pulled on the uniform. I can see now that he was afraid that was what would happen to me.”
