Old Noob
There are very few things that a person can say about getting old that are good. You can't say that weird aches and pains that have no definable source, or strange hair growing in places that shouldn't grow hair is a positive thing. On the other hand, age brings wisdom, and if that is lacking, experience. I have been reading books since I was four years old. My father literally forced me to learn before I went to kindergarten. While his methods were somewhat harsh, my love affair with books has persisted, and will persist, until I can no longer draw breath.
The reading bred writing, and while I don't remember jotting down ideas when I was four, I was building worlds in my head at an early age.
Unfortunately, I never pursued publishing any of those stories until recently. There is a certain amount of terror in bringing something you have created to light, at least to me. Fear of failure, fear of success, or just plain fear of letting light into a personal box of your own creation led me to believe that going down that path was certain destruction.
It wasn't until I was in my forties when I first submitted a short story to an online mystery magazine, and lo and behold, they accepted it.
And the next.
And the next.
I still find it hard to believe that anyone would want to read something I wrote, or be entertained by it, but I'm trying to put that thought process out of my head, and plug along putting words to paper.
But I'm very new here at GoodReads, or a "noob" in gamespeak, so forgive me when I stumble along trying to learn the process and business of promoting my creations.
I started writing "Bowling With the Big Dogs" over fifteen years ago, and while life kept getting in the way, I knew that eventually it would be brought out of the box.
And now it's here.
All I can say is I hope it was worth the wait, and that you have as much fun reading it as I had writing it.
