My latest book published!

Five Great British Horror Stories BOOK TWO is now available for download from Amazon!

If you like sophisticated literary horror fiction, then you'll love it! Avoid if teenage horror with dumb characters and blood and gore is more your thing.

Although there is a bit of blood and gore.

Journey's beginning: starting a new book!

The characters are there, the story is waiting to be told, the Word document has been set up... I am ready to type the first words of my new book.

So if the neighbour's kids could quit screaming and shouting, and if my other half could turn the TV down, and if the tea could cook itself, I would be much obliged!

Bet Dickens never had this trouble.

'After Owen' published!

Finally available for download on Kindle, my psychological thriller, 'After Owen'!

The blurb...

"Before Owen, my hours were filled with music, sex and food." So says Alice, who lives a self-indulgent life with her lover, Liam, in Shakespeare's old town of Stratford-upon-Avon. Her days are spent cooking lavish meals and making love, her evenings singing, drinking and flirting in Liam's blues club.

Then without warning a boy turns up on their doorstep and announces that he is Liam's son, Owen. Alice learns that her boyfriend got the child’s mother pregnant on an ill-advised one night stand years before he met her. As Liam desperately tries to find out why the boy is here and attempts to return him home, Alice struggles with this intrusion into their life and home, finding Owen a difficult and creepy child. As she struggles to cope with Owen's increasingly disturbing behaviour, she becomes vulnerable to the advances of Liam's business partner, a man with a dangerous hidden agenda.

Soon Alice learns that nothing is what it seems. Not even, it turns out, her own childhood.

‘After Owen’ is a psychological thriller with elements of horror. It contains scenes of a sexual nature and language that some might find offensive.

New Release Date!

And so, 'After Owen' did not get published on Friday after all. This was because I managed to crash my car last week and I spent hours sorting out garages, insurance and courtesy cars, in between blubbing my eyes out. I have been driving for over twenty years and have never had an accident. It was quite a shock. Luckily I was unhurt, just dented pride.

I have used this weekend to go through the manuscript again and it looks pretty sewn up to me. Just the formatting to do.

So. New release date. Monday 17th February maybe?

On track to publish next Friday!

I think I have got the internal walls of my book where I want em! (see previous post!)

Long suffering husband is reading the final draft and will alert me to any remaining issues, but for the very first time since I started writing this book I feel confident it is close as dammit to being publishable.

'After Owen' is on track to be available in Kindle this Friday 14th February.

2 weeks until I publish

I am working to a deadline of 14th February to publish my first full-length book of fiction, 'After Owen'

Bar a few tweaks I thought it was all done when I sent it off to the proofreader, and that it wouldn't take me long to wrap it up when I got it back. Wrong. I printed out the proofed version, read it, and thought.... more, it needs MORE!

The thrilling denouement wasn't quite as thrilling as it had seemed when I wrote it. It needs... more! So my mind has come up with all sorts of amazing stuff that is going into the book at the last minute.

And whilst this is quite exciting because every thing I add pushes further away the doubts I have that anyone but me in the entire world will like this book, making this book the best that it can possibly be is killing me.

It's like I built a house from scratch with my own bare hands, walls, windows, roof, electrics, water system. And I think It's nearly done, just some decorating then I can move in. But then I walk around the house and think, crap, this doesn't flow right, I need to knock some walls down and build them somewhere else. But I am TIRED, I have worked so HARD, and I just wanna move in, god-darn it!

But I have read too many indie books that were rushed out, that could have been good if only the author had gone through a couple more drafts, proofed it, edited it, made it the best it could be. Hell, I've read too many traditionally published books that were not all they could be!

No! I shall carry on, working, building, knocking down, until I have a book I can walk around and be happy in.
