“Riding his bike had felt like he was embracing the whole landscape, gathering everything across the horizon into his arms.”
Amrit Chima, Darshan

“But where there is hate, there is a need for love.”
Amrit Chima, Darshan

“with an awkward, unripe dignity”
Amrit Chima, Darshan

“Don't tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass.”
Anton Chekhov

“Everywhere I go I'm asked if I think the university stifles writers. My opinion is that they don't stifle enough of them. There's many a best-seller that could have been prevented by a good teacher.”
Flannery O'Connor

“The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence.”
Charles Bukowski

“I think we ought to read only the kind of books that wound or stab us. If the book we're reading doesn't wake us up with a blow to the head, what are we reading for? So that it will make us happy, as you write? Good Lord, we would be happy precisely if we had no books, and the kind of books that make us happy are the kind we could write ourselves if we had to. But we need books that affect us like a disaster, that grieve us deeply, like the death of someone we loved more than ourselves, like being banished into forests far from everyone, like a suicide. A book must be the axe for the frozen sea within us. That is my belief.”
Franz Kafka

“The purpose of a writer is to keep civilization from destroying itself.”
Albert Camus

Hey! So sorry I missed your message here (I always seem to miss these in my comments section; I never receive notifications). I've been writing fiction more than spending time on reviews (although I'm still reading!). And I've been traveling, but I try to get on GR occassionally to see what everyone is up to. A little envious I can't keep up with all the sharing and reviewing!

Thanks and happy new year to you as well!
