As an author I am struggling with the idea of “Branding.” I know that I am supposed to brand myself as a product that I am selling, but I am a creative individual. I am inspired to write children’s books by my nephew and his love of “magic” or my daughter and her love of “dragons.” The fantasy genre I write because it is something I love to read! I have a passion for history and am dipping my toes into the historical romance genre. I don’t know where I will go next and that is part of the journey and the excitement of writing. I hope that my readers will find my “voice” and follow my thread no matter the genre.

Dust and Dreams is a story about a woman who loses everyone she loves and is powerless to stop it. They are picked off one by one, for gold. Pregnant with her first child she is widowed and when the unthinkable happens; she breaks.

I wanted to write a female character in a time period that would fight back. Not a mail order bride but a tough, gritty, story for a tough time in history. The woman had to be strong and grow up fast! Cassie plots her revenge and then has to live with the consequences of those choices.

She didn’t plan much past destroying them all and running to San Francisco. It seemed simple enough, take a train and disappear, maybe start over somewhere.  When the dust settles and she finds herself in San Francisco things get complicated.

I love the story of finding hope and being courageous enough to not give up. After all, life never goes exactly as we plan, but if we are lucky we can enjoy the ride.

The Light

I am the way, the truth, and the light. John 14:6

It is easy to get lost in the darkness of this world. The enemy has planned so many distractions to block out the light. Chaos prospers and peace becomes a distant memory. That is when I turn off my cellphone, computer, and television and seek out my Father’s voice.

My soul sighs as I listen to: silence. I whisper a prayer and the light shines brighter and fills my spirit.
