Helie Lee is a Korean American author and speaker. Her first book, Still Life with Rice, the story of her grandmother’s life, was a bestseller in the U.S. and in Korea. Her second, In the Absence of Sun, tells of her mission to rescue nine of her relatives from North Korea, which became the subject of an SBS documentary special. She has been featured on Oprah, Nightline, CNN, NBC Nightly News, the Today show and NPR, and has spoken at universities across the country and before the U.S. Senate.
