Historical Release - Wild Irish Rose
Hello Lovies!
I've a confession to make. I'm a lover of all things historical. Vintage fashion, grand country estates, Victorian cottages, mutton chop whiskers, kilts, a man on horseback, a slower pace of life, and manners that matter. These are only a few of the things I love about the past. Some of them still exist, of course, but for the most part, I find myself dredging up oft viewed period pieces on Netflix and reading lots of Historical Romance to get my fix.
The truth is I've been writing historical romance for nigh on twenty years, and it is my first love. The language is more formal, more exacting and fun to write, and then there's the whole research aspect of it. I love digging through hours of Google searches for just the right ball gown by Worth or discovering what a ducal estate kitchen looked like in 1880 England, what might be on a Sunday dinner table in Texas in 1900. But it's very time consuming and can actually get in the way of spending writing time with my tail in the chair.
So I've brought you the (Contemporary Romance) Texas Wildfire Series first and have thoroughly enjoyed writing those books. And I'll write more contemporary romance. But now, lovies ... now I'm releasing a book that is so near and dear to my heart.
Wild Irish Rose is a story, if you'll forgive the reference, of pride and prejudice. Caitrin Lonigan is a strong woman, a woman who's fought hard her whole life to have something she could be proud of. So she's placed her pride in things she can hold on to: manners and outward appearances and a willingness to work toward ridding Fort Worth, Texas of the taint of sin that has put Hell's Half Acre in the heart of downtown Cowtown on the map. She's a lady from the top of her red amber hair to the tips of her perfectly sensible shoes, and she's convinced that she's the perfect person to take over the upbringing of her late sister's children.
McKain Travers is just the sort of man to celebrate all the pleasures Hell's Half Acre offers and isn't too proud to admit it. He might even brag about it a little, given the opportunity. He's charming, deep-pocketed, and successful at the tables, and there's not one thing about him that would recommend him for rearing children. But he's duty-bound to do so and plans to adopt his late brother's children.
It's a perfect set up for failure on an epic scale as these two can agree on virtually nothing. But love sometimes takes us by surprise, seeing through foolish prejudices and overcoming jaded pride.
So I invite you to immerse yourself in a lovely summer escape and watch love bloom like a Wild Irish Rose.
