Writer, blogger. Champion of underdogs, animal & human. I write the English blog for ACE (Animal Care Espana) - a brilliant rescue shelter for abused and neglected dogs (and now cats too) in Spain.

I love writing and read widely - will read anything but especially interested in psychological crime. I take a great interest in criminal justice, especially corporate negligence. This is reflected in my first two books - both dealing with totally avoidable tragedies.

I always think of what they say in the theatre, that you have to get bums on seats. As a writer you have to keep your bum on the seat. Just sit at your desk, even if you are doing nothing. Something will come. Another way is to have several projects and switch so if you are stuck on one, working on the other will take the heat off the one you are blocked on. I'm not sure what I'd do if I was totally blocked for a long time. It hasn't happened. Just now I'd almost kill for the chance i.e. time to start a new novel.(less)

However, it's horribly frustrating at times and when you are struggling to get published etc. a complete nightmare. But I don't have an option. I have to write because it's what I do. And when circumstances prevent you writing i.e. money it's hell.(less)

The stories behind words are fascinating. Why do we call a computer glitch a bug? What’s the origin of the expression ‘mad as a hatter?’ Why are so many pubs called ‘Ye olde’ something or other? And if you think news is called news because it’s new, you’re wrong. Oh so wrong.

And now, here is the news.

We’ll start backwards, so to speak, with the word news. It see
