Updating

A lot has changed in the last few years since my last post. I won’t bore you all with the details, instead I’m going to update the site. I will no longer post only book related stuff. I am more than the sum of my library. No, I will post whatever comes into my head, or attic if you will.

I will post crafts, recipes, videos, etc. Basically whatever the heck I want. If you still want to know about the latest and greatest authors, then I suggest you go here… www.KentuckianaAuthors.com

It’s time to clean up, so excuse the mess while I try to remember what I’m doing. Also, my editor is not on this site so it you see a mistake then forgive me, I’m not perfect.

Things I should have said to my sister before she passed away.

Things I should have said to my sister before she passed away.

You already know I love you. That’s a given. You know the family loves you and we’re sad you’re leaving us, but what you’re leaving us for- is awesome!

I don’t want you to be scared. You had a rough life, rough childhood, rough marriage, rough addiction that stole everything from you. But what it didn’t steal was our love. No matter what you went through you always knew where home was. And even though you didn’t always come back, you knew in your heart we were there.

So now you’re going to a new home. Stop and think about all that you’ve seen here on Earth, from the Rocky Mountains to the desert, the beauty was all around. And although you have seen more than your fair share of the ugliness of mankind, you will never have to see that again.

Years ago when you came back to us you worked hard to become a new person. God took you in, cleaned you up, and started you on a brand new life. And even though that old life eventually caught up with you, it couldn’t keep you away from God’s promise.

So now that you’re leaving your friends and family behind, you’ll be welcomed to a new family. And the friend that was with you in your darkest times, the friend that you begged to rescue you, the friend that held you when no one else was around, he will be there. Jesus will welcome you into Heaven and will wipe your tears away.

Dad will be there too. I know you missed him, I know on Earth he stopped remembering you, but what Alzheimer’s ate away, God restored. Dad will walk you around and show you a world you can’t even fathom. In the Bible it says there are oceans, rivers, hills, mountains, everything we have on Earth is in Heaven, it’s beauty amplified a thousand times. Colors your earthly mind can’t comprehend, smells, tastes, all of it will be new. And on top of that you’ll get a new body, a perfected body. New teeth, we all know you need those, new boobs, cause we both can agree yours down here were too big, hehehe, and new organs which will never fail you.

You’ll also get a new home. Jesus says He goes to prepare a place for us. In His Father’s house there are many mansions – treasures in Heaven. Your treasure box may not be as full as it could’ve been, but at least you’ll be there. No more suffering. No more heartache. No more pain. You’ll finally be free. You’ll be free. So it’s okay to let go. It’s okay to relax and let Jesus take you. We love you and will see you later.

Earth is the only hell you’ll ever see. It’s time to go home.

The not-so-beautiful suicide

The news of Robin Williams passing away hit many of us hard. We grew up with him, from Mork and Mindy, to Jumanji, to Popeye, to Mrs. Doubtfire, to Hook. I could go on and on. The man who made us laugh is now making us cry. It’s sad that depression is shrugged off like a foot cramp. “Get over it”, is often what those who suffer from depression hear. The funniest man in the world couldn’t “get over it”. He had wealth, fame, beautiful children, a wife who loved him dearly, and friends and fans that would’ve dropped everything they could to prevent this outcome.

It’s hard living with someone who is depressed. You never have the right words to say. No magical song, poem, or verse, can snap them out of it. Sometimes all they need is someone by their side, sometimes it’s more. What they don’t need is to be blown off or ignored because one doesn’t understand what the big deal is. And even though those of us left behind may feel like suicide is a selfish act, depression is not. Depression is not a choice. Robin Williams knew this and for years he tried. He may have won some battles, but he lost his war.

I will be praying for his wife, and children, and all those he left behind.

Happy Independence Day

If you can’t top it, quote it.

“I hope we once again have reminded people that man is not free unless government is limited. There’s a clear cause and effect here that is as neat and predictable as a law of physics: as government expands, liberty contracts.” Ronald Reagan.

Legally Undead Cover Reveal!

Legally Undead , available May 27 from World Weaver Press

LEGALLY UNDEAD cover(1)

Book Blurb

A reluctant vampire hunter, stalking New York City as only a scorned bride can.

Elle Dupree has her life all figured out: first a wedding, then her Ph.D., then swank faculty parties where she’ll serve wine and cheese and introduce people to her husband the lawyer.

But those plans disintegrate when she walks in on a vampire sucking the blood from her fiancé Greg. Horrified, she screams and runs–not away from the vampire, but toward it, brandishing a wooden letter opener.

As she slams the improvised stake into the vampire’s heart, a team of black-clad men bursts into the apartment. Turning around to face them, Elle discovers that Greg’s body is gone—and her perfect life falls apart.

What is a Champion?

AttyEve:

This is beautifully put, please take the time to read.

It is the day after.

Maybe a few couches are still smoldering on State Street. Our young men, who transformed into what it truly means to be a winning team, are either home or on their way today.

Their coach, John Calipari, handled questions, (inappropriate or not,) with the grace of a consummate ‘winner.’ A few fans are still flying their UK Wildcat flags from their cars. We are disappointed, but grateful (for the most part) that we made it this far.

Last night, on the news, I saw two young men who looked to be college students. They were interviewed about their reactions to Kentucky’s loss in the national championship game. The first said, petulantly, “I’m JUST SAD,” and stomped off in a toddler-like fashion, apparently to find some other malcontent poor sports to commiserate with.

The second, with the grace of a young Calipari, talked about how great…

His Substitute Wife… My Sister

2

Book Blurb

Life has never been worth living for Charisse before her father died. After three attempts to kill herself were unsuccessful, she makes a deal for release from hell on earth, with one of the people who made her life what it was.

It wasn’t until Chyna finds out that her husband, Parker Mills, was having an affair with her twin sister, Cheyenne, that she realizes she’s losing the best thing she’s ever had. Feeling the ultimate betrayal by her own sibling, Chyna knows she has to do whatever it takes to keep her husband and give him what he longs for – a baby. Knowing that she’s unable to have children and Cheyenne is afflicted with the same condition, she decides to go to the only person that can help her save her marriage – her younger sister, Charisse.

In the end, one sister will die, another will lose everything and one will get everything that she wants.

Book Excerpt

“Spending fifty thousand dollars to produce off spring is crazy. Do you know what I could have done with that money? By this time, I’d have hundred college funds set up for you to donate to some third world child you could have adopted.”

Frustrated, Parker sunk down in the chair in front of Jaelen’s desk. “Yeah, but it’s not the same and you know it, Jae. Look at you. Five kids. Five damn kids.”

“Two are from my wife’s first dead husband.”

“But you’re still a family. You have off spring. You have someone to carry on your bloodline and you’re sharing these moments with the woman you first fell in love with and married. I want that. I want to be you… well not all ornery and mean, but you know what I mean. I’ve been married ten years to Chyna and you weren’t even married to Kim before you were bopping out twins.”

“Well, she raped me to get mine.”

“Let’s not even go into that. I think you just harbor that over her just so you can take advantage of her.”

Jaelen smirked wickedly. “It does make the mundane marriage very exciting when you can tie up your wife and make her beg for you. You should try it sometime.”

“Chyna says it might mess up her hair and hands.”

“If you can spend fifty on a baby, you can spend a couple of hundred– “

“Let’s not go into this.” Parker really didn’t want to expand upon his wife’s shallow behavior.

Jaelen took the hint, understanding in advance this was a sore subject for Parker. “So, this crazy sister-in-law, what’s her story?”

“Nothing I haven’t already told you. Chyna says her sister is so pathetic she can’t even kill herself.”

“How many times has she tried?”

“This last time makes three.”

Jaelen stopped what he was doing and frowned. “I’m not religious and all that, but she ever thought that it just wasn’t her time, and that she had a purpose in life.”

“You ever thought you’re just saying that shit because you’re an ass and you’re trying to find some hilarity out of a bad situation?” He stood up.

“So I take it you haven’t told Chyna about the boat?”

Parker didn’t answer because he knew Jaelen already knew the answer. He was saving it for the moment when Chyna announced that they were going to have a baby. Knowing that they were going to dedicate eighteen more years together deserved an award and “the boat” was the key.

Yet that moment hadn’t come and he was starting to think it never would. The majority of Parker’s friends were married and those that were had children, vibrant healthy off spring. Their blood running through small versions of themselves.

Easy Like Sunday Mourning

Jennie Marts

Dating is hard…

Single mom Maggie Hayes puts up a tough front to hide her loneliness, spending her days in the courtroom as a lawyer and her evenings as a closet video gamer. Another heartache isn’t worth the risk, not after her husband left her last year for a Hooters waitress. When she decides to try dating again, a cute video game-designing nerd seems like a safe bet….Until he becomes the prime suspect in a murder.

But falling in love can be murder…

Jeremy Rogers makes a good living designing video games, but nothing prepares him for the real world adventure of being accused of poisoning his own employee. Add in falling for a sassy attorney with a competitive ex-husband, a clingy blonde coworker, and a mammoth-size dog that eats his furniture. Suddenly fighting off a screen full of zombies or preventing an alien invasion seems like child’s play.

Game over!

Maggie and Jeremy find themselves embroiled in a game of death threats, lies, and betrayal. Maggie must learn to trust again while playing the most dangerous game of all. Because defeat could mean not only losing her heart, but also her life…

Revisit the quaint Colorado town of Pleasant Valley and sit in with the Page Turners Book Club, a group of book-loving women who double as extremely amateur detectives. Join them as they set out to help their friend, while devouring good literature and some really great desserts.
