SERIES REVIEW – The TEMPEST KNOX Books by Kat Gracey –Occult Horror – Paranormal & Urban Fantasy
SERIES REVIEW – The TEMPEST KNOX Books by Kat Gracey –Occult Horror – Paranormal & Urban Fantasy
Rising Storm: (Tempest Knox Book 1) What an enjoyable read! Tempest Knox is a normal, engaging, flawed, and therefore believable main character. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in her company. There was a very spooky backstory that gave depth to the main tale and the intriguing subplots. (I got a chill every time I saw we were about to go back in time.) Dark and well written, I wasted no time in heading to the bookshelf for Book 2!

Brewing Storm: Tempest Knox Book 2 (Rising Storm) I hope this is a whole series! (It is.) Even better than book one-if, that’s possible! Certainly, I am more invested in the storyline and the characters! As the book opens, Tempest's life is totally out of kilter, but of course, I'm still on her side. I had notes for my review, but now I realize I can't say much about what's happening or even to which characters without giving away what happened in book one -- who lived, who died, etc. Still, I can say I had a lot of epiphanies about witchcraft and covens as I read, just practical knowledge that I'd never even considered, so I felt like I was actually gaining information as I was entertained, bit my nails off in suspense, and practically swooned at some of the images the author led me to conjure in my mind. Oh, yeah, besides Tempest, I had my favorites among the other characters. And she knows how to draw some fine characters.

And I don’t know how to do links right, and I don’t usually include them, but these worked before, maybe not here, but you're wise, I have faith in you:

The Raven's Daughter Review

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I was thrilled to discover this book, this book that, like its main character, defies you to limit it with one label. It is a great thriller, yet it is also magical, fantastical, paranormal, mysterious, suspenseful, and poetic, with all the elements that I look for in a book and so much more. The Raven’s Daughter has a strong central character who is Native American and Irish, a former criminologist, and a forever friend who could become a dangerous enemy--the soft-hearted yet audacious woman named Maggie Tall Bear Sloan. The inclusion of Native American lore, mysticism, and romance raised the book to a higher level for me. The author wrote with a poet’s finesse, included well-researched details, and characters that will haunt me for days. Flashbacks that at first hinted at gruesome events too awful to stare at full on wove through the chapters--a haunting melody that rose to a crescendo, enhancing the menace of whoever, or whatever, was stalking, and killing in Maggie’s world. This book was a delight to read, yet at the same time, there was a sadness and tension that built and exploded at the end. Ah, yes, the end--I’m not even hinting at that. Please write us another Raven’s Daughter, Peggy A. Wheeler.

A Fox Can Read

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I really enjoyed reading The Hunted Tribe by Roma Gray to the point that I kept pausing to say to myself, wow, this is great. I actually do that when characters fascinate me, and I find seamless presentation, along with fabulous, professional writing as I did in The Hunted Tribe. The ending knocked me for a loop even though the pieces for it were there all along-- I just didn’t see them. Now, I want the next book--now! I want to go on with these characters. I feel like they were a part of my life, I can’t just leave them like that. Here’s a hint of the basic tale very distilled, because I don’t want to give anything away:
Sean’s grandmother reveals to him that they are members of an ancient tribe who long ago chose to trap and enslave the strong and deadly Grishla in order to steal its power for themselves. The tribe failed. The Grishla was furious and began mercilessly hunting them down, through the centuries. Sean learns he has a significant role to play in fighting the Grishla.
What looked like it was about to be a perfect summer at Grandma’s eating vegetarian foods laced with exotic spices and digging a treasure pit in the woods with a diverse collection of newfound friends quickly becomes a nightmare when Grandma finds a grisly bundle under Sean’s bed. Seriously, read this book-- I’m not going to tell you any more.

Dark Tales from the Den

Dark Tales from the Den
Dona Fox
Announcing the release of Dark Tales from the Den by Dona Fox-eighteen stories that read like a collection of twisted little nails "some driven, others deftly pushed home, into the coffin lid...." (William Cook, Editor of Fresh Fear).
Well, hello. I am certainly a prolific blogger, aren't I? I will try to be here more often as there are so many people that I want to thank for their inspiration and support on the path to the creation of Dark Tales--indeed, I may need to write a separate blog about each of them.
Right now, I'm here to announce the release of this collection of eighteen short stories, Dark Tales from the Den. The Kindle version came out on April 11, 2015 and the paper version is available today, April 18.
I shouldn't have favorites, but my favorite may be the first story, Smoky Martini, although I also have a soft spot for Shypoke's Tears, Grace at the End, Crawl Space, and The Hero.
You know I would like you to post a review of Dark Tales on Amazon, but if you'd rather just talk to me directly, e-mail me at dona_fox@outlook.com and let me know what you think. I look forward to hearing from you!
I thank everyone for their support and you will definitely be hearing about some specific people in future posts.
Dona

My First Ever Blog Post, Be Kind...
Oh, my, here I go, jumping in head first. I’m going to put in a lot of links. Probably a bad idea. I hope they work or I’m going to be very embarrassed for a very long time, right. For my very first ever blog post I’m going to point out what I think are some interesting items, to me at least, and just hint at something so crazy that I can’t even say it but I know you can figure it out, if you want. Anyway, I’m amazed to find that I made a small ripple in space and time thanks to the various people who made the effort to document a few of my publications from the early 1990’s on various sites on the Internet. There is even a foreign language site which I can’t locate at the moment, but I can tell it is about me and I love it.
1) The Internet Speculative Fiction Database is an entry on Wikipedia, from that link, you can search for my name. That puts me one degree, as they say, from being on Wikipedia. Or, you can go directly to me (entry 1003) at this link: www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/ea.cgi?1003.
Let me clear this up right now – there are not two n’s in my first name no matter what anybody tells you but it is pronounced as if there are two n’s (so when you meet me you don’t need to get all fancy with the pronunciation, unless you want to be funny, I don’t mind).
2) You can also find me using the search engine on Locus Magazine’s impressive first page: www.locusmag.com but it’s much easier to go directly to this Stories, Listed by Author “Fo” page and scroll down to my name: www.locusmag.com/index/s250.htm.
I hope to have the time someday to complete and update these links. In my dream future that will magically happen the same way the current kernels of information appeared. Thanks for reading. Dona
