Million Dollar Staircase First Page!
“Chapter One
“Start the boat, we’ve got to get this body out of here.”
Sandy’s face was pasty, but she moved to the helm on the rear deck and cranked the engine. I hurried outside and cast off the lines. We backed out of the slip, moving slowly so as not to create a wake and disturb the other boats. Witnesses to a hurried departure wouldn’t help things.
When the boat reached the channel, I directed her downstream towards the Manatee River, then out into Tampa Bay. The water was too shallow to do anything except stay in the channel. It was a slow motion escape, made intensely nerve-wracking by the presence of the body below deck. I doubted anyone was chasing us yet, but there would likely be questions about our night-time excursion.
It was a long, tedious cruise through the edge of the giant bay, past Anna Maria Island, then finally out into the open Gulf. My nerves were strung tight, knowing what came next. We’d broken the law now, but it was the only way out.

Keeping Us Afloat on Kindle
My new memoir, Keeping Us Afloat: A Trip Down the Intra Coastal Waterway and A Journey Through A Marriage, is currently available for a modest price on Amazon as a Kindle ebook. The print version should be available by the first week in December.
All of my reader's so far have raved about what an easy book it is to read, and that's the highest praise to me. I hate books that you have to struggle through, and I'm thrilled that mine doesn't fall into that category.
Anyone who would like to read and review the book can contact me by e-mail at david@crosbystills.com, and I'd be glad to provide you with an ebook copy to review.
Photography from the trip and the rest of the story can be seen through my website at www.crosbystills.com. Just click on The Book on the menu bar.
