When your writing, the tension in the plot is like a rubber band. Sometimes it snaps and you just have to start all over again.

A good character in a novel brings out emotions from our past and plants them in front of us - as terrifying as that may be. I find I either hate them for it, or I want to be their friend.

One of the things I like about writing fiction is the ability to act through every character in the book ... and even more exhilarating is the idea that each character is turning in an impromptu performance.
