Biography - Maadi's Adventures in Egypt

Now you are probably wondering about the fact that it is Maadi’s photo that is inserted in this Biography. You see Maadi feels that she should get the credit for this work since the story is told through her eyes. She is pretty dogmatic about this. But after some debate we agreed that I could have the narrative part of the Biography, and she could have the photo.

As for me, In trying to satisfy my wanderlust I have traveled throughout much of the world (I think it started way back when I use to stare out at the outside world through the bars of my play pen). Eleven of the most fascinating years were spent living and working in Egypt. Egypt is one unique country. One of the reasons for writing “Maadi’s A Biography - Maadi's Adventures in Egypt

One of the reasons for writing “Maadi’s Adventures in Egypt”, is to share this uniqueness, and to interest people, young and old, to venture out and experience this on their own. And how better than to do it through the eyes of a canine.

Maadi was with us for three years in Egypt, three in Jordan, and for several months in Europe, so she is a seasoned traveler in her own right. Many of her encounters and experiences in this book were actual happenstances, including her relationships with Baladi, the wild dog on the dunes, and with Atef the building boab and his family. She was an ambassador for her canine brothers and sisters. With her good nature and loving personality, she was able to conquer the fear and distrust of dogs, inherent in the Middle Eastern culture. She is excited about this novel, and hopes that all people, young and old, especially young students, will have an opportunity to read and enjoy it.

My two other books, “Doublestar Conspiracy”, an action-packed, thought-provoking adventure novel, and “Tides Inn”, an old-fashioned Agatha Christie type ‘whodunit’ are inspired by this overseas experience. You can learn more about these two books on my website: www. billwilke-international.com

As for me, I grew up in New Orleans, attended Louisiana State University, worked as a Civil Engineer, 19 years of which were overseas, and now am retired with my wife Sally in the Lake Tahoe, Nevada area

My wife said I was moving around in bed like I was in the middle of playing a football game. I very seldom remember my dreams, but this one made quite an impression. The second inspiration was a very unnerving event that took place on a vacation trip. They both ended up being the major plot catalysts for “Doublestar Conspiracy”.
The inspiration for my second book “Maadi’s Adventures in Egypt” was influenced by the eleven years that I lived in Egypt, four of which were with our dog Maadi (Named for the Cairo suburb that we lived in). The experience of living in that country was so fascinating and intriguing, that it was an experience that I wanted to share, especially with children. And it seemed reaching out to them through the eyes of a canine would be an entertaining and effective way to do it, though I have found that adults seem to also enjoy reading it
The inspiration for book number three, “Tides Inn” can be wrapped up in two areas, my love of British Mysteries and my love of British beer. I have had the plot in my head for a long time, but it took sitting in a very scenic pub, having a pint to bring it to fruition. My pub in this book is fictional, but typical, except for the tide element. I have always wanted to find a pub with this phenomenon, but haven’t found one yet. Guess I will just have to keep on looking.
Now I am waiting for inspiration no. 4.

The Tides Inn pub

Some people have asked me if there is a pub with this setting, or if there is a real Tides Inn. For many years I have envisioned a pub such as this and have checked out several pubs that could possibly match this setting. But so far I have not found one even close. It is one of my dreams to find one or to own one. If anyone knows of any pub similar to this, I would sure like to hear about it.
