Meet author, Pinar Tarhan!

Hello everyone! Please welcome romcom author and hopeful romantic Pinar Tarhan to my blog today. Pinar is an older millennial, rock music lover, and coffee addict. Writing is her calling, and she also enjoys traveling, dancing, reading, and movies. In addition to English and Turkish, she speaks a bit of Italian and Norwegian.

From Pinar:

I’m a freelance writer and romcom author based in Istanbul. I’ve been creating stories for a long time, but my first official story can be traced to middle school.

I pen short, fun, escapist romantic comedies that even guys enjoy. My novels are multiple POV, HEA, and ensemble.

I’ve published three novels so far, one standalone and the first two books in a trilogy. The standalone is my debut novel Making A Difference (M.A.D.), and the trilogy is called A Change Would Do You Good, also the name of the first book in the series.

A Change Would Do You Good follows 35-year-old Janie as she gives her life an extreme makeover to cope with the death of her boyfriend, trading LA for San Diego—but her fresh start gets messy fast, thanks to quirky new neighbors, unexpected chaos, and the ridiculously hot pro surfer downstairs who’s never been in love.

I was inspired to create the story after I spent a month in Santa Barbara as a 15-year-old at a summer camp. I met lots of quirky characters and went on adventures. While none of my characters were inspired by real people, Janie carries certain characteristics of me – especially her taste in rock music. I also wanted to be a fashion designer when I was a kid until I noticed I couldn’t sew, knit, or draw to save my life. But I still love clothes and shopping.

Themes of change, finding a meaningful career, strong friendships, and healthy romances are close to my heart, and I hope to transport the audience to a sun-drenched beach setting where they will find at least one character they will love and relate to.

All the books in the trilogy follow Janie as the main character and continues with her story, but the novels can be enjoyed on their own as well. While all characters are connected to her in some way, they all have their own storylines. The book covers more than Janie and Kevin’s relationship, even though it’s the most important one in the book.

I’m currently writing the final book of the series: A Change Would Do You Best.

In addition to writing novels, I write non-fiction. I’ve published a guide called How to Write an Amazing Romance, which takes you from the idea-finding state to marketing and publishing. If you’re new to writing romance or feel like you need to improve, you’ll find the guide helpful. I run the blog Addicted to Writing where I cover most aspects of writing as well as TV series, books, and movies with regards to writing. Bookish merchandise!

I’m really happy to have launched my own sustainable bookish merchandise range. I am an award winning product designer and have been really enjoying my love of writing with my background in design. In between writing my latest romance novels, I have been busily creating lots of gifts and t-shirts for writers and book lovers. The gifts are made in a green energy warehouse and even the packaging is plastic free and designed to become a picture to colour in. Let me know what you think! From Lizzie. x

Guest post. Karen Louise Hollis

I’m thrilled to have Karen Louise Hollis on my blog today. Karen runs her own (very popular) blog, alongside writing lots of beautiful books. I asked her about both and she’s here to tell us more.

From Karen:

I started writing my blog because I have been reviewing books online since 2000, when I wrote reviews for sites like Ciao and Dooyoo. I also used to review books on Facebook, but realised they could only be seen by my Facebook friends, so I decided to start a book blog two years ago.

This led to me joining various blog tours and using my blog to review those, alongside the odd blog post about my own writing and some interview posts. Then more recently, I decided (after finishing writing my third novel), I should put more time into my blog and try to create content on a daily basis, instead of the usual three posts a week I had been doing.

So I started to contact authors I knew online, or those who had written books I had read and enjoyed, or those whose work I was interested in to see if they would like to be on my blog. I was amazed how many did and especially thrilled that some of my favourite authors like Milly Johnson and Lisa Jewell said yes! Wow! I tend to ask the same ten questions, though I vary it occasionally depending on who I am interviewing.

I have written many more non-fiction books than fiction and these include lots of gymnastics books where I have interviewed gymnasts who competed for their countries from the 1950s to the present day. As both my parents were journalists, this feels like my natural home. I am fascinated by people and truly believe everyone has a story. I ask the questions I want to know the answer to and I hope readers will find the answers interesting too. This is the same with my author questions. My first question I ask is about the books and authors they read as a child and wow, nearly everyone says Enid Blyton (me included), she was such a wonderful writer for getting kids reading and caught up in all the magical worlds we find between the pages.

BLURB

Becki is fifty and a single mum to eleven-year-old Jemima, after being widowed five years ago. Dan is forty-eight and a single dad to eleven-year-old Freddie, after his wife left him five years ago. They have both given up on love. But when they all go to Silver Sands Bay on the Lincolnshire coast for the summer, will they be able to put the past behind them and find love again?

Meet Jodie Homer!

Today, it’s my pleasure to be part of the blog tour for Jodie Homer. Jodie is a member of my book group, Lizzie’s Book Group and it’s been lovely to see her author journey. Feel free to join the group and to tell your friends about it! It’s a great place for authors and readers to chat and find out more about each other. Wishing Jodie a brilliant publication day for her second book and I look forward to reading Married By Thirty.

Meet Jodie:

I am an author of romance chick-lit. My newest novel Married By Thirty is the 2nd book in the For the Love of a Scottish Myth series that is 4 books based on myths and legends in and around Scotland. The first in the series is A Magical Christmas on the Isle of Skye.

So this new one is based on Freya Mulberry who has been best friends with James for all of her life and on her 16th birthday they make a pact to get married when they turn 30 if they aren’t already.

Obviously love isn’t that simple and Freya leaves town but just before her 30th birthday finds out she has inherited a manor house. There’s always been rumours about what really happened at the house and now Freya is in the middle of it all and has to find out with James help what actually happened.

What will they discover when they explore the house and who is the woman staying in the house?

Author bio

Jodie lives in a small village in Solihull with her husband and two children. She loves nothing more than dancing around embarrassingly to 90s music and eating mint chocolate. Jodie enjoys reading and writing books full of romance and swoon-worthy fictional men.

Blurb

Almost fourteen years ago, Freya and James made a pact to marry if they were both single at thirty. When Freya inherits Mulberry Manor and its rumoured ghost, she returns home and enlists James’ help in figuring out the truth behind the ‘haunted house’. But it’s not just the house that is being a little weird. Can James and Freya figure out the mystery of Dahlia Mulberry without the spark between them setting both their lives on fire? And now they’re both thirty… when the clock strikes midnight, will they really put a ring on it?

The one that he wants.

Hi everyone. How are you? It’s been a while since I posted a blog, but i’m hoping to get right back into it. I spent the day walking along the seafront with fellow writer, Chris Penhall, this week, while we chatted about our books and what we are writing. Chris and I have also been running my writing buddy sessions in a beautiful café in Chelmsford, Essex, which encourages us all to put pen to paper. We have such an eclectic mix of writers there, from poets, comedy writers, hobby writers, novelists, children’s authors and more.  I’ve also been procrastinating a bit, which I always seem to do right before a book launch, which isn’t ideal!

Book 2 of my most recent series is out on the 30th March, so I’m very excited about that. It’s called, The one that he wants. It is the follow on from, My Perfect Ex. This story follows Sasha and Ollie’s story as they try to get over their past and move on. Both now work in Cherry Blossom Lane and they can’t seem to stop bumping into each other, even though Sasha can’t stand Ollie! She’s pretty sure there must be a reason why he’s suddenly around so often, but she’s too busy having meetings with the hottest new social media star, Devon, to have time to spend thinking about her teenage crush.

Pre-order your copy of The one that he wants, today!

Daily smiles.

Hello everyone. How are you? I’ve finally sent book two back to my editor for the second round of edits and am starting book 3 in my most recent series, which is based in Cherry Blossom Lane. I’ve been trying to be more active on social media and have been making lots of Instagram, Facebook and TikTok posts, which has been a learning curve. It’s given me the chance to chat to some new readers and subscribers, so I’m really enjoying it too.

The next writing buddy session I’m hosting with fellow author, Chris Penhall, at Fete cafe in Chelmsford, Essex, will be on the 16th March. Details can be found here.

Here are some memes I’ve made to hopefully make you smile today. Feel free to drop me a message or comment to let me know what you’re working on, or reading, at the moment. Have a great week! From Lizzie. x

February word count.

Hello everyone. I haven’t posted here for a while, as my site has been a little bit glitchy. How are you all? I’ve been working on the second book in the Cherry Blossom Lane series and have just received the first edits back from my editor. The book is called, The One That He Wants and is the second book in the series to My Perfect Ex. It’s always exciting and nerve wracking to open that email to see what she says! Luckily she loves the story and is looking forward to book three. Phew!

I’m trying to be more organised this year, so I bought myself two huge wall planners for my office and home and I’m using it as a visual prompt to get on with book promotion and stop procrastinating. I’ve held a couple of writing buddy sessions that I run with fellow romance author, Chris Penhall, recently and the daytime session was fully booked, which was exciting. It warms my heart to hear about the different ways people write, what they are working on and also that writing buddies might help them to get words onto paper in some way. We hire the top floor of a gorgeous coffee shop and encourage people to write with two 30 minute writing sprints, a coffee break to network and a chat at the end about how people are. There are no word count pressures and we don’t check anyone’s work, it is purely to write alongside other creatives for a couple of hours. We have people writing books, comedy, short stories, poetry, articles and more. The weather has been dreary, so it’s always a mad dash to keep our computers and manuscripts dry if we are going to the coffee shop. I tend to write by hand at first, so I always have pages and pages of paper with me.

I’ve been chatting to people on social media a lot recently and I’m enjoying hearing about what everyone is reading. I’ve just started reading a lovely book called Patches through time by Sian Turner, who is a member of my book group, Lizzie’s Book Group, on Facebook. I’ve also just finished a book by Sue Moorcroft, called An Italian Island Summer, which is a beautiful read.

Have a great week everyone! From Lizzie. x
