Meg Bortin is an American writer based in France. Her new novel, The Rites of Man, will be published in December 2025 by Ten 16 Press. Previous literary works include Desperate to Be a Housewife (2013), a memoir about her life as a young reporter on the front lines of sexual freedom, and Dear Djeneba, a personal essay in the Granta anthology Family Wanted: Stories of Adoption (Granta Books, 2005; Random House, 2006).

As a journalist, Meg Bortin covered the Gorbachev era in Moscow and reported from Paris, London and Manila. She was the founding editor of The Moscow Times, the first independent English-language daily in Russia. Her articles on politics, culture and lifestyle have appeared in The New York Times, the International Herald Tribune
