All Swords Under Heaven

Meixing sat near the campfire with Claw in her lap. The cat had enjoyed a hearty meal of fish before deciding to turn in for the night. Given his small size, it would be easy enough to move him when she needed to get up. In the meantime, she was happy to run her hand through his fur.

“What do you think is the scariest thing about Old Man?” Katie asked. “I mean as a swordsman.”

The swordsman in question was not present. Instead, he had gone with Avraniel and Spot to scout ahead… and to ensure the...

Audiobook News

For various reasons, the decision was made to split Two Necromancers, a Fortress, and a Titan into two parts for audiobook. Keep in mind that Book 5 is enormous. Even when split in half, each half is still comparable in size to Book 4. Yeah. I don’t know what I was thinking.

In any case, you’re probably wondering when it comes out.

Two Necromancers, a Fortress, and a Titan (Part One) will be out on 4th of November 2025.

Twerpiness Index

Thanks to Avraniel, Spot refers to Katie as the ‘twerp’. However, in the future, she won’t be the only ‘twerp’ around. So how does her twerpiness compare to those future twerps?

Thanks to being born before Spot, Katie isn’t actually considered that twerpy despite ending up shorter than a certain boy or certain girl.

According to Spot, who came up with the twerpiness index (Timmy came up with the name), someone’s twerpiness is basically a function of how much of their life he’s been around to see...

Undercover Dragon

“…” Timmy stared at Spot. The dragon’s pitch-black scales had been painted a garish orange, and he had tied a bandana around his head. “What are you doing?”

Spot grinned toothily. “I’m a bandit.”

Katie glanced at her master. “Remember that mission we got about infiltrating that bandit group to rescue some hostages? I think Spot is talking about that.”

Timmy made a face. “Spot, I don’t really think you’re cut out for undercover work.”

“But they won’t know it’s me.” Spot nodded sagely. “I even cha...

I am mostly healed!

Let me tell you, that was a rough patch. The muscle soreness, everything tasting like card board, and most of the respiratory issues lasted about a week, which wasn’t ideal. The real kick in the guts was the coughing.

Yeah.

That wasn’t ideal.

I ended up almost entirely losing my voice for a few days. The coughing also got so bad that I had difficulty sleeping and had to carry water with me everywhere because I’d get random coughing fits that would leave me hunched over while my diaphragm and oth...

Currently…

Struggling.

Everything tastes like cardboard, and I’ve pretty much lost my voice.

Yeah. Not ideal.

Cuddles… send help.

On em dashes and AI…

One trend that I’ve noticed lately is to accuse anyone who uses an em dash of employing AI. Now, obviously, if someone has never used em dashes before in their life, then this might seem suspicious, but I think people need to be careful before accusing others of using AI.

Moreover, let’s not forget why AI uses em dashes. AI uses em dashes because em dashes were employed in the data sets used to train AI in the first place. In other words, AI uses em dashes because a non-insignificant proportion ...

Changing Circumstances, Changing Characters

Something that I think is often forgotten when it comes to making characters is the idea that the way characters behave changes based on their circumstances. How a character acts in one situation or around one group of people can vary dramatically in comparison to how they act in other situations or around other groups of people without that character necessarily ‘breaking character’.

This is something that happens with the Unconventional Heroes Series. Perhaps the best example of that is Spot.

...

Progress Report And Other News

I’ll start off with the progress report before moving on to other news.

The first draft of Cosmic Conundrum (Book 2 of Cosmic Delivery Boy) is complete. It runs to roughly 34,000 words.

Now, don’t let that seemingly short length alarm you. It’s only a first draft, which means it’s going to be way shorter than the finished story. A first draft is quite rough. Think of it as more of a skeleton to make sure that the story, as planned, will work the way I want. By the time the story is complete, it ...

Big and Strong

The girl ran over to Spot. “Is it true that you used to be really tiny?”

Spot shifted his attention from the massive shark he’d dragged up onto the beach. The shark had been menacing local fishermen for the past month, so they’d asked him to get rid of it.

Despite being hauled out of the ocean, the shark made one last frantic attempt to bite Spot. The dragon batted the shark’s attack aside and then brought one claw down with thunderous force, extending one wing to protect the girl from the showe...
