Like many before him, Martin started writing as a hobby but found that it took him over. He's taken the Open University Creative Writing Course (passed with Distinction) and the Exeter University Poetry Writing Course. So far he's published one non-fiction work, two novels and one collection of poetry, but has more work in the pipeline. He's a medievalist by academic background.

His latest novel, 'Out of Time', is a psychological / supernatural thriller set against the background of Cambridge academia, a setting he knows well from the time he spent living in the city and working at Cambridge University Library. A grand day out

Had a great day in Cambridge yesterday doing location research for the current novel. Visited the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology and the Fitzwilliam amongst others, followed by lunch with an old friend. Not a bad life being a writer. Shame about all the trees on the line though …
