DULCE FREIRE nasceu em Alvaiázere, a 10 de Janeiro de 1969. Licenciada em História (1992), Mestre em História dos séculos XIX e XX (1998) e Doutora em História Económica e Social Contemporânea (2008), pela Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa. É Professora Auxiliar na Faculdade de Economia da Universidade de Coimbra, Presidente da European Rural History Organisation (EURHO) e, entre 2017 e 2024, coordenadora do projecto ReSEED – Rescuing the seeds’ heritage: engaging in a new framework of agriculture and innovation since the 18th century, financiado pelo European Research Council (https://reseed.uc.pt/). Foi investigadora auxiliar do Instituto de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Lisboa, onde realizou o seu pós-doutoramento, e investigadora colaboradora do Instituto de História Contemporânea (IHC-FCSH/UNL), onde foi vogal da direcção (2009-2013) e Vice-Presidente da Associação Portuguesa de História Económica e Social (2017-2021).
Desde 1990, direcciona os interesses de pesquisa para temáticas relacionadas com a história rural e da agricultura em contextos portugueses e ibéricos. Tem vindo a analisar políticas e enquadramento institucional, movimentos sociais, memória, processos de inovação tecnológica e mudança social. Procurando desenvolver pesquisas interdisciplinares tem participado em diferentes equipas de investigação e recorrido a instrumentos teóricos e metodológicos que permitam relacionar testemunhos escritos, orais e visuais. Foi research fellow no Institute of European Studies da University of Califórnia at Berkeley (2001), tendo realizado outras estadias de pesquisa na École de Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (2005) e na Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (2006).
Foi ainda secretária da revista Penélope. Fazer e desfazer a História (1993-1998); redactora da revista História (1994-2007); docente de cadeiras nas áreas da História Económica e Social e das Metodologias para as Ciências Sociais (Instituto Superior de Psicologia Aplicada, 1999-2008; Escola Superior de Educação de Setúbal, 2005); coordenadora do projecto Agricultura em Portugal: alimentação, desenvolvimento e sustentabilidade, 1870-2010 (2012-2015), além de consultora das séries A Febre do Ouro Negro e Raia dos Medos, exibidas pela RTP (1999-2000) e de várias exposições e outras iniciativas com carácter de divulgação.
Autora de várias obras e artigos em revistas científicas nacionais e internacionais, é co-editora (com Pedro Lains) do livro colectivo An Agrarian History of Portugal, 1000-2000 (Brill Academic Publishers, 2017). ...more
