Alexandre de Jarém Indá Mandarino nasceu em 15 de setembro de 1970, no Rio de Janeiro. Aprendeu a ler pouco antes de fazer três anos de idade (alfabetizado por sua mãe e por quadrinhos da Marvel). Formou-se em Jornalismo em 1992 e trabalhou em vários órgãos do jornalismo cultural e de informática entre os longínquos anos de 1991 e 2005, quando largou as redações para escrever ficção, trabalhar como tradutor e fazer música eletrônica. Ao longo dos anos 00 e 10, teve publicados contos de mistério (A Aventura do Penhasco dos Suicidas), fantasia (Hiriburu, O Círculo de Ossos) e ficção científica (O Rabo da Serpente, Fast-Forward/Rewind). Mandarino também é o editor da revista bilíngue Hyperpulp, dedicada a divulgar os melhores autores que transitam pelas fronteiras entre "alta literatura" e a melhor literatura "de gênero" — e a demonstrar, como ele acredita, que estas fronteiras são apenas uma invenção.
Desde os anos 90 vem criando beats e samples com seus projetos musicais Chip Totec, Phunk Phreak e Terra Incognita. Em parceria com Leandra Lambert, ganhou o primeiro lugar no III Concurso Latino-americano de Composición Electroacústica Gustavo Bezerra-Schmidt, na edição de 2012, com a música Cortina de Ruínas.
Entre seus trabalhos de tradução constam as séries Discworld, de Terry Pratchett; Star Wars; e The Invisibles, de Grant Morrison, além de livros como Rei Rato, de China Miéville.
Em junho de 2016, Mandarino faz sua estreia como romancista com O Caminho do Louco, primeiro livro da trilogia Guerras do Tarot.

Alex Mandarino is a Brazilian writer and translator, born in Rio de Janeiro in 1970. He descends from Italians, Basques, and Native Americans. After working as a journalist for almost fifteen years, he decided writing fiction was what he really liked. He edits the online magazine Hyperpulp and creates electronic music since the late 90s under the pseudonyms Chip Totec and Terra Incognita (the latter with his partner in art and life, Leandra Lambert).

He tries to mix literary sensibilities with pop culture aesthetics, through hybrids like indie thriller, pop fantasy, cyber cozy or whateverpunk. With short stories published in Brazil and the U.S., he recently finished his first novel, a paranormal thriller soon to be published. He's been translating, from English to Portuguese, authors like Grant Morrison, China Miéville, Terry Pratchett, and Dan Chaon. He loves to hike through the woods and to derive through cityscapes.
