One of my favourite strands of Mitzi Bytes is the bit about female friendships, and I wanted to explore those themes more closely in my new project. It's the story of two friends who meet in their first year at university and sweeps through the next two decades of their lives, and shows the way those lives run parallel and come apart regarding experiences of motherhood and maternity. The "sweep" of it was inspired by Lauren Groff's Fates and Furies, which I loved so much. (less)

Will This Make You Happy, by Tanya Bush

With this book, I’ve finally succeeded in my goal of becoming a person who reads cookbooks cover to cover, although it helps that Tanya Bush’s Will This Make You Happy is as much narrative as recipe collection. The recipes themselves are just a little bit fussy (as opposed to no-fuss) in a way I find most appealing at the moment, having to go out of my way for an ingredient or two, realizing t
