Somehow the bio is boring. I don't want to talk about me, I want to talk about books. So if you need to see the bio, scroll down. But to really know a bit about me, check out my "Loved It" list. It says a lot. Of course, I have about three times that many books rated at five stars, and they are all very special to me, each in their own way. Some are books others would just rank as "meh" but worked for me, and others are classics that everyone would agree are fantastic. That's what I love about Goodreads: we all get our opinion on something very personal as reading choice. If I write that a book "Should have been 5*," it means it needed editing!

These days, I read very little other than Jane Austen-inspired fiction. Once in a hundred, I'll re

I'll definitely put it on my "To Read" list! You're right, scene-setting can be helped a lot with little details like "spermaceti candles."

For Regency non-fiction books, I'm on again-off again reading Jennifer Kloester's "Georgette Heyer's Regency World" and David M. Shapard's annotated "Pride and Prejudice," and both provide clarification on many issues, though Mr. Shapard has a few errors. I have a copy of Maggie Lane's "Jane Austen and Food" and Jody Gayle's books on needlework and furnishings yet to read. I use a lot of actual Regency era books from Google books for writing reference, including "Mirror of the Graces," "La Belle Assemblee," a couple of cookbooks, Johnson's dictionary, etymology books, law books, technology books, books on how to write letters, and more. I also use Jane Austen's letters as a resource--Dierdre LeFaye's excellent annotated version.

I love the research rabbit hole on the Internet, and have hundreds of bookmarked pages, including Regency documentation like Hansard and court martial listings. I find well referenced articles on history blogs such as Rachel Knowles' and Geri Walton's--both are sources for my latest book.(less)

Blog Tour for "An Accomplished Woman!"

My blog tour is on for my first traditional Regency romance novel, "An Accomplished Woman." Though not my usual JAFF offering, this book has hints of Northanger Abbey, Pride and Prejudice, and Emma. "An Accomplished Woman" has a distinctive story with new characters that you'll fall in love with. It's a short novel/long novella in length. Come along to read exclusive excerpts and get a chance to w Read more of this blog post »

The book had some excellent prose and a good cadence within its paragraphs--I'd like to hear more from this author just for that reason. The star was lost mainly because the book dragged in pla

This was a 4-star story until the epilogue. I liked the new characters and the new settings. I just didn't need (or want) ALL the extras in the epilogue. Honestly, unless the main story is centered on them, I really don't care about Jane, Kit" Read more of this review »
