Behcet Kaya is the author of ten novels. His first literary fiction novel, Voice of Conscience, follows, to some extent, his own life experiences. His second novel, Murder on the Naval Base is a fast-paced who-done-it, his third novel, Road to Siran, Erin’s Story, is the sequel to Voice of Conscience.

Kaya began the Jack Ludefance PI Series in 2017 after he and his wife moved back to the Florida Panhandle. Treacherous Estate, the first novel in the series, introduces Jack who takes on his first major case when a beautiful young woman sits down next to him at a local bar, begins to ask for his help, then suddenly falls off the stool, dead.

After publishing Treacherous Estate, Kaya completed six novels in the series, Body in the Woods, Appella

One day I climbed on top a huge boulder and found a circular pool full of rain water. Our elders used to do same when they were teenagers, and spread the word about deaths occurring there while climbing that particular boulder. Not only was the boulder incredibly immense but also sat on top of a precipice. Since this was a rural area, there were no authorities to stop us boys, and we continued to dare each other to climb, despite the warnings. We'd cup our hands, fill them with water, and throw it up into the air to show the other boys waiting at the bottom of the boulder. The water we threw into the air would create silvery, sparkling rainbows under the slanted rays of the sun. Several years ago I made my first visit back in more than 50 years. One of my first thoughts was to climb the mountain and find that bolder one more time. But my hiking buddy informed me that the pool of water on top of the bolder had been blown up to recover treasure hidden there. (less)

ALASKA CRUISE May 23-30, 2015

Part 3By Behcet KayaDue to the small number of passengers, 30 in all, we were given three cars and, much to our delight, everyone had their own window seat. The voice over the intercom, our tour guide for the ride, commenced telling stories of Skagway, beginning with the town cemetery. In the late 1800’s, the gold rush was at its peak and there were the good guys and there were the bad guys. He po Read more of this blog post »

“You piece of shit, you need a wife; a woman’s touch in your life.’ But who would marry someone like me? Being a PI isn’t exactly the best profession to be in to attract a wife. I’ve read about too many investigators and policemen who end up divorced and I certainly fall into that category.”
Behcet Kaya, Treacherous Estate

“Ludicrous? Seems like wherever you go, trouble follows you.”
“Look, Deputy Lawson. I had nothing to do with all this. I was just have a beer and minding my own business until this woman sat down next to me and said, ‘Can you help me, Mr. Ludef…’ She didn’t even finish the sentence. The next thing I know she’s laying on the deck. I don’t know who she is or why she sought me out.”
“Seems like I’ve heard this story before. You have a nasty reputation of people dying around you.”
“You know better. That comes with the occupation.”
“And you know the drill. Don’t leave town until we get to the bottom of this.”
Behcet Kaya, Treacherous Estate

“Jack, this is Vance McGruder. I couldn’t find your cell number so I’m taking a chance on reaching you at the cottage. It’s Monday afternoon and I need you here as soon as possible. I’ve arranged for a one-way, first-class ticket on Delta Air Lines on their 3:15pm flight tomorrow afternoon to Atlanta and connecting on to LAX. I’ll have a car and driver at LAX to pick you up. Call me as soon as you get this message.”
Behcet Kaya, Body In The Woods

“A long walk. A very long walk. Sand between my toes. The rough surf at times reaching and washing away my footprints. About a mile down the beach, I sat down and started thinking back through everything Vance had told me so far. Thought about what my next moves would be. Seeing the Asian guy tomorrow and having him snoop would settle one thing in my mind. Did Vance do it or not? Crucial. Until I knew that, I didn’t want to go any further.”

“911. What is your emergency?”
“Dead body.”
“You’ll have to speak up. I can’t hear you.”
“There’s a dead body in the woods!”
“Where are you located?”
“I’m on one of the trails off Summit Road in Wild Oaks Mountain Park. I’m near the summit.”
“Can you be more specific?”
“No, I can’t! Just get someone here!”
Behcet Kaya, Body In The Woods

“Cindy extended her hand. I got up, faced her, and shook her hand. A strong handshake. This was definitely a no-nonsense young woman.
“I recognize you from your pictures, Mr. Ludefance.”
“Pleasure to meet you, Cindy. And you can call me Jack. I’m afraid you have the advantage. You probably did a Google search on me and have all my background information?”
She didn’t hesitate. “Yes.”
“Don’t believe everything you read on the Internet.”
“I don’t.”
Behcet Kaya, Appellate Judge

“It had taken me a full three days to read and study the police reports. My initial thought was to find what I thought I wanted to see, but I quickly abolished that idea because I couldn’t tell what I needed to see. There was just too much information. I never really knew where that break was going to come from and I didn’t want to miss anything.”
