Untamed (Dark Khimairans)

As the front door shut, leaving her alone in the house with Dante, Bailey felt a warmth at her back. She gulped. Dante was right behind her. When he'd sauntered in as if nothing happened in those damn tight jeans and no shirt, heat flooded her. Just looking into the man's golden gaze made her ache for him. She shouldn't. She knew it. But the way he moved, the way he spoke, her insides turned to mush even if she didn't want them to. Damn her betraying body. How dare it? Bailey tried to hold onto the anger even as Dante inched a little closer.

She felt the hot whisper before she heard Dante.

"Did you really carry me naked on your back?" His words were so low, so hot along her skin. Heat pooled between her legs. Damn it, she didn't react like this to guys! Anger. She needed to hold on to anger in order to stay sane near him.

Bailey moved forward, walking around the island. Her dragon flew off her shoulder and settled on the counter. She had to keep something between them. Once she felt sure enough to turn, she did. But he was there, and her hands met his hard form. Dante growled, or purred, or purr-growled she wasn't sure but it was so sexy. The sound nearly made her moan. What the hell was he doing to her? Despite her brain telling her to back away, Bailey didn't. Instead, she stared at his chest. The light dusting of hair intrigued her and the mark...the strange yet familiar brand on him took all of her attention. Her fingertips moved. She watched them, but couldn't seem to stop herself. She traced the circle slowly and then the tail.

Dante shivered beneath her touch. He grabbed the hand tracing the mark, and her gaze darted up to his. She nearly melted. He looked at her as if she were something to be devoured. His golden gaze dark, hooded, needy. Heat came off him in waves. His hand was hot on hers. He kept a firm grip, pushing her palm all the way down on his mark. He closed his eyes and groaned as if he gained pleasure off just that place being touched. Bailey didn't allow herself to stop, to think. When his molten gaze fell upon her again, she was lost to him.

Interview: Decadent Kane "I don't put things together like most..."

For your reading pleasure, we'll be featuring each author with a story of her choice for the next few weeks. Some will include interviews, and all will include excerpts.
Today's featured author is Decadent Kane.

1. What makes your stories unique?

As with any author, creativity comes in plot and characters. I think what makes mine different is I don't put things together like other people…
Example: Elves and Orgasm curses.
Who thinks up these things?
Oh right- me.

Catch up on the series!

Two vampires and a little boy. Two dads and their son. One family.

A child’s birth. His first teeth and first steps. School friends and bullies, recess, school plays and science projects. A girl, a crush and a broken heart. These childhood experiences are shared by countless little boys from different horizons.

And yet… Jacob is anything but average. For as long as he has been able to understand, a secret has shaped his life, kept even from his closest friends: his father, Andrew, is a vampire. And so is his other father, Nicholas.

Two fathers raising a son neither of them ever thought he would have. A Sire and Childe resuming their relationship after years of estrangement. Through snapshots covering Jacob’s life from birth to adulthood, discover this unusual family, and how, in the end, all it takes is love.

In a strange era when demons are beginning to appear all over the world and threaten humans and vampires alike, the three of them form quite an extraordinary family. And yet, at the same time, they could hardly be more normal.

“Explain yourself,” Andrew demanded, barely managing to keep the growl out of his words. “Explain how you could do something so stupid and put all of us in danger.”
This time, when Jacob looked up at them, he didn’t wince again. Instead, he frowned. “Danger?” he repeated. “What danger? You think she’s going to try and stake you?”

“No, I think she could talk. Tell all her friends about this. And one of your teachers might hear about it. Report us to social services. And when they stake Nicholas and me for kidnapping a child, because vamps can’t have kids and can’t adopt or foster children either, you can tell me again that there’s no danger.”

Eyes wide and incredulous, Jacob shook his head. “She’s not going to tell anyone. She promised.”

“So did you,” Nicholas snapped. “So why in hell would you break that promise?”

“Because I love her,” Jacob said, quietly but with no hesitation. He was looking down again, his gaze fixed on his hands, linked together in front of him. “Because I’ve been lying to all my friends for as long as I’ve had friends, and I just…” He sighed, looked up at Andrew, then Nicholas, eyes pleading for them to understand. “I needed someone to know. I needed just one person to talk to about it. About what it’s like to pretend I’m not what I am. Or what it’s like to train with you. Or…” Jacob swallowed hard. “I just needed her to know. So when she tells me she loves me, I can believe her instead of thinking she’s in love with a lie.”

Andrew opened his mouth—and closed it again without a word. He was still mad at Jacob, but he had heard a pain in Jacob’s voice that he had never before suspected was there. It tore at his heart like Jacob’s tears always had, and—like always—Andrew would have done anything to soothe his son’s pain. But this time, there was nothing Andrew could do. This time, Andrew was part of the problem, and not the solution.

“So what?” Nicholas asked, words sharp as fangs. “Every time you fall for a girl, you’re going to tell her? Wait a minute. Did you tell your girlfriends before her?”

“No!” Jacob shook his head emphatically. “Of course not. I never told anyone else. She was the first. And maybe she’ll be the last. I love her, Dad. I’ll always love her.”

Jacob’s gaze flickered between Nicholas and Andrew as he said it, and that ‘dad’ could have been either of them, or maybe it was both, but Andrew still felt removed from the discussion.

“You’re six-fucking-teen! You’ve had three girlfriends in the last three years! Don’t fucking tell me that you’ll always—”

“You know what, Dad?” The feet of the chair scraped the floor when Jacob abruptly stood. “You’ve been in love with the same person for a hundred years. So if you tell me love doesn’t last, I’m going to laugh in your face. Really hard.”

The line between light and dark

For your reading pleasure, I have excerpts each week from authors apart of the Cimmerian Shade Boxed Set.I'll be featuring each author with a story of her choice for the next few weeks. Some will include interviews, and all will include excerpts. Today's featured author is Heather Marie Adkins.

The line between light and dark has never been so unclear.
Ever O’Connell prides herself on being a good Wiccan, and her coven follows the path of the Goddess with love and light. But the “dark” witches in school—the BlackMags— keep pushing her toward the edge, until Ever finally finds herself at war.

Cade Bourdain inherited his father's thirst for power, drawing him into darker areas of magick. Despite his dislike for the “Fluffy Bunny” Wiccans, he feels an unearthly connection to Ever.

When the two strike up a secret relationship the real magic between them is ignited, generating a power that a dangerous warlock yearns to take for his own. Ensnared by the warlock, Ever and Cade’s conflicting covens must work together despite their differences—or else be destroyed by a common enemy.

The screen door creaked on its hinges as he swung it open and knocked on the front door. His first knock shoved the door in, revealing a cool, dim hallway.

Startled, he propped the screen open with his shoulder and grabbed the handle, holding the door still as he knocked again. “Hello?”

No response.

“Anyone home?” Cade pushed the door open a little more, listening intently.

Still nothing.

Should I go in? he wondered, teetering on the threshold. On the one hand, barging into someone’s home — especially someone who wasn’t necessarily a friend — wasn’t cool. On the other, what if Ever was home alone and something had happened to her?

That thought alone made his decision. “I’m coming in!”

He shoved the door open all the way, the edge dragging across the floor as if it weren’t fitted properly into its frame. The screen door slammed shut behind him, the sound an obtrusive crack in the hushed silence.

“Ever?” Cade walked forward, his eyes darting around the foyer. An opening to his right revealed a battered dining table and chairs, guarded by an impressive sideboard and a painting of a meadow. To his left, a living room with stuffed couches and no television, but a nice marble fireplace that took up nearly an entire wall.

“Hello?” Cade passed through the doorway beside the stairs and found himself in the kitchen. The oven was on, ticking into the silence. Something smelled gingery and delicious. He hadn’t realized how hungry he was until assaulted by the scent. He stepped closer to the oven, curiosity drawing him to peek into it.

“I should really leave the dogs inside when I’m home alone.”

The voice, coming from behind him, startled Cade so badly he jumped, knocking over a pitcher resting on the counter. Tea gushed across the Formica and waterfalled to the floor

Ever stood in the kitchen doorway, looking pale and wan with a square of gauze taped to her hairline, but sporting an amused smile. “Yep. Should definitely leave the dogs inside. Maybe they’ll keep out snooping intruders set on spilling my sweet tea.”

“Damn, Ever. I’m sorry.” Cade grabbed the pitcher and placed it in the sink, then glanced around for a towel. “The front door was open, and you didn’t answer. I thought something might have happened to you. I didn’t know how badly…” His voice trailed off as he eyed the bandage on her head. “Did he really hurt you?”

Ever shrugged, gliding into the kitchen on bare feet. “I had to get stitches. But I’ll survive.”

Cade stood by helplessly as Ever opened a drawer and extracted dish towels for clean up. As she bent to wipe up the floor, Cade jumped forward. “No, let me. I made the mess.”

That damn amused grin again. “Alright. I’ll get the counter.”

A minute passed in awkward silence as they dried. Cade was crouched so close to Ever’s bare legs he could feel her heat. She smelled good, like something earthy, and the curve of her anklebone was fascinating. He stole glances at her smooth, golden calves, muscles clenching as she swiped at the spilled tea. He couldn’t help but imagine what it would feel like to reach out and touch her, to slide his fingertips up her skin, over her knee; to press his lips to the softly rounded curve of her thigh beneath the hem of her shorts.

“Why are you here, Cade?”

The question caught him off guard. He lurched forward, dish towel sliding through the puddle of amber liquid. “Um, what?”

Ever looked down, raising an eyebrow.

Horrified, Cade realized his fumble had pushed a tidal wave of tea over her foot. Another part of him noticed her tiny toes, painted a vivid shade of blue, and the silver circlet on her left second toe. Even her feet were cute.

“Sorry,” he said, avoiding her gaze and her smirk.

“It’s okay.” She lifted her foot behind her, seamlessly leaning backwards to wipe it off with her own towel.

Cade found himself mesmerized by the way her back arched. She had a neck like a swan, all grace and ease. He’d never been this close to her, close enough to notice all the little things most people ignored, like the beauty mark just beneath her jawbone or the perfect hourglass her curves made in that outfit.

Movie reviews: baby Driver & King Arthur

Last week I did a double date...not with another couple but with another movie!
That's right Manly Man and I hit Baby Driver at 7:15pm, out by 9:15pm and headed to the next movie theater to see the new King Arthur at 9:30pm... Double the pleasure double the fun...wiggles eyebrows.

First up Baby Driver-

This is a fast paced car action movie. The main character is a young male who has a ring in his ear from a car wreck when he was little. He uses music nonstop to drown it out and he's a very talented driver. he's the wheel man in several successful robberies until the wrong crew comes along and he's ready to get out.

I enjoyed this movie because it had a unique spin of fast cars and driving. The lead character while young, stands his ground, even when you don't expect him to. He has a clear sense of right and wrong...but when he's caught in the middle- well that's a rock and a hard place.

It was worth seeing in the theater to me, and I don't go out much. The driving in it was fantastic- they really had some great scenes.
The story line was well played out, good follow through, and even a bit of love interest.

I'd give it 4 stars.

The new King Arthur movie I actually liked really well too- also 4 stars, but the use of fantasy elements, special effects was well done. The story line is King Arthur related, but it takes a new spin on the old tale.

And well- the leading male is a hunk...so you know I liked this movie. LOL But all kidding aside, they had a good plot, even adding new elements, and I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys fantasy movies and King Arthur.

Back from vaca with cool pics.

I'm back! And while I loved vacation with no service, no tv, no internet etc... it will forever be known as the mosquito vacation! I'm not kidding you those little buggers in Montana are attracted to the sprays even with 40% deet in them- they come to you in swarms!
But I'll get to that.

I have some gorgeous pics. I live in Wyoming where it's pretty much flat, Casper Mountain is a big hill, and there's just a lot of plains and sagebrush. So these images were amazing to me!

Up first- we decided to camp most of the trip...at least on the way up to Stevenville Mt where Manly Man's sister lives. This first camp spot is outside of Dubois, Wyoming. The mountains started looking all Gothic and I loved it.

Up next is the actual camp site- we were lucky it was pretty chilly here in Wyoming still as the mosquitoes didn't bug us and we had a nice evening.

I've lived in Wyoming my whole life- never been to Yellowstone, but I did go to the Tetons camping once with my dad when I was about 13. We didn't camp there this time, but I loved the view...

After that we headed up to the next camp site-  Grasshopper Creek in Montana.

This is where the little hell beasties decided we made good breakfast lunch and dinner. We spent a day up in Crystal Park digging crystals and fighting off the craptastic bloodsuckers, and got some beautiful pieces to bring home.

It was an amazing adventure.
