I was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

I am a die-hard Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Supernatural lover. I am a sessional instructor at the University of Manitoba and teach mainly for the Department of English, Film, and Theatre although I also teach for the Asper School of Business and the International College of Manitoba. I love horror, science-fiction, and fantasy movies and frequently relax at the end of a long week by watching one.

I feel truly blessed to have a job that allows me the opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of my students. I hope that my readers will enjoy reading my work as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Exciting News!

Dear Readers,

I have had such an exciting few days!

First, Resurrecting Cybele is now available as an audiobook on Amazon, Audible, and iTunes. I worked with an amazing narrator, Michelle Marie, who made the characters come alive. It took several months to complete but the time was well spent. I hope you love hearing her performance in the Resurrecting Cybele audiobook as much as I do.

“You know, my poor grandmother once told me that the way to a man’s heart was through his stomach. Life has taught me that it’s actually a few inches lower.”

“But hippies always forget that old Gaea can be one heartless bitch. Spend a little time wandering lost in the woods as she attacks you and tries to reduce you to fertilizer.” She snorted. “You won’t be singing kumbayas very long.” She paused to make sure Janus would get the point. “In this world, Gaea’s the predator and we’re the prey.”
Jenifer Mohammed, Resurrecting Cybele

“Whether we are men dreaming we are butterflies or butterflies dreaming we are men, the one truth is that all life is an illusion. We are all wandering shades.”

“Strange, how in all those apocalyptic movies, when their society breaks down into lawlessness and anarchy, Canada is always the haven of safety, the place people want to escape to.”

Jenifer Mohammed My pleasure, Charles.

We have a lot of books and interests in common and I look forward to reading your reviews. Like you, I also have seen and own every ST movies and every episode of all the series. There is something very compelling about the mythology of that series that offers such a positive (for the most part) view of the future of humanity and our relationship with technology. I particularly enjoyed Deep Space Nine because it was the first time we saw the Federation in a sustained fight for its existence and the struggle over morality and situational ethics that resulted.

I teach Literature and Horror at the University of Manitoba and just last week, I showed my class an excerpt from the Supernatural episode "Bloody Mary" to talk about ghosts and the return of the repressed. It is definitely a small world that your cousin created Supernatural as that is one of the most compelling shows on TV today. I am blown away by the mythology that was created within the Supernatural series. You are clearly very proud of your cousin and given his successes, I can certainly understand why.

You are certainly correct that the best indicators for success are cognitive ability, swift study, and consistent performance whether in Hollywood or in our own lives. I look forward to hearing more from you.

All the best,
Jenifer

Charles Weinblatt Thanks for friending me. You are certainly deeply involved with Goodreads.

I couldn't help but notice your interest in Star Trek and Supernatural. My son and I have seen every episode of the TV iterations and every ST film multiple times.

My cousin, Eric Kripke (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Kripke) created Supernatural. He is a successful Hollywood writer, director and producer. Eric also produced and directed "Tarzan, Bogeyman, Bogeyman 2" and he is the creator and executive producer of the current popular hit TV show, "Revolution."

My wife and I babysat for Eric and his siblings 40 years ago ago. I recall his love of making a video and his favorite genres (horror-sci-fi) in Hollywood. I still doubted him when he and friends made videos in high school. After that, he was accepted into the Film School at The University of Southern California (USC), arguably the best of its kind in the world. This allowed him to connect with DreamWorks and Steven Spielberg. He met directors like George Lucas and JJ Abrams, who shared his sci-fi and horror vision.

Today, Eric is busy continuing the success of Revolution having established a terrific reputation in the industry for his future. It's an example of being bright, motivated and perseverant.

Hundreds of thousands of people move to Los Angeles with the expectation of becoming a famous actor, director or producer. Only a tiny fraction of them come close to their dreams. Only the tiniest percentage of that group will become a famous Hollywood personality. Eric did it all before the age of 35. He's living out a dream that countless of his contemporaries dream about doing.

I also had an uncle (my dad's brother) who made over 200 Hollywood films and over 75 TV show episodes, almost all as a gangster. While on stage in England in the 1920s and 1930s, he became successful enough that he had to change his name (Weinblatt). One could not be successful in those days with a Jewish-sounding name. He took on the name Welden (as in "well done"). Uncle Ben moved to Hollywood around 1936 and he never looked back. For the next 40 years, he made movies with the best and most successful Hollywood directors, producers and actors. Through Uncle Ben, my parents and I met many famous Hollywood personalities. As he had no children, I inherited his Hollywood memorabilia. We were introduced to so many famous people that it made my head spin.

My point is two-fold. Hollywood is not restricted to any particular type of actor, director or producer. It is filled with stars who devoted most of their life to acting study and performance. From the lowly grip to the studio CEO, from the anonymous walk-on to the biggest star, cognitive ability, swift study and consistent performance made them famous. This has been no more true than in the history of Star Trek and today's successful sci-fi shows and films.

Thanks again for your friendship. Please stay in touch.
