3. Tongariro National Park
Tongariro National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the oldest national park in New Zealand.
It is also the 4th oldest national park in the world!
Inside Tongariro National Park are 3 active volcanoes, Māori religious sites, and one of the world’s best day hikes, the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.

4. Waitomo Caves
The Waitomo Caves is a village with extensive underground limestone cave systems including Aranui Cave, Gardner’s Gut, Ruakuri Cave, and the Waitomo Glowworm Caves.
The Māori word “Waitomo” means “water sinkhole” or “water passing through a hole”.
5. Sky Tower
The 328 meter tall Sky Tower is in the CBD of Aukland and it is the tallest freestanding structure in the Southern Hemisphere.
You can go up it and get an amazing view of the city.
6. Aoraki (Mount Cook)
Aoraki is the highest mountain in New Zealand, a top tourist destination, and a climbers heaven.
It runs the length of the South Island and has 3 peaks, Low, Middle, and High.

7. Lake Tekapo
Lake Tekapo is an 83 square kilometer lake in the Mackenzie Basin.
To the South of the lake is the Lake Tekapo Regional Park. There is also an astronomical observatory.

8. Bay of Islands
The Bay of Islands is an enclave of over 140 island. It is a popular tourist attraction for big-game fishing and sailing.
There are also pristine beaches and Maori artefacts.
9. Abel Tasman National Park
This national park lies between the Golden and Tasman Bays and Tasman Bay.
Inside is the Abel Tasman Coast Track and the Tonga Island Marine Reserve where you can see seal colonies, penguins, dolphins, and more.
10. Auckland War Memorial Museum
The Auckland War Memorial Museum has collections covering New Zealand’s cultural, natural, and military history.
The building is an icon of Auckland. It is neo-classicist architecture upon a dormant volcano.

1. Tamales
Tamales are a common food in many Latin American countries, and Guatemala is no different.
This Mesoamericana dish is a corn-based dough (masa) with a savory filling.

3. Rellenitos de Plátano
Rellenitos de plátano is a popular dessert in Guatemala.
They make these by mashing sweet plantains and stuffing them with chocolate, cinnamon, and refried beans. After rolling them into shape they deep-fry them and dust sugar or honey on top.
4. Pupusas
Pupusas are a Salvadorian dish but are popular in other parts of Latin America, including Guatemala.
They are a thick corn tortilla with a savory filling such as cheese, pork, or refried beans.

5. Atol de Elote
Atol de Elote is a drink made from sweet corn. It is sweet corn liquified with either a blender or by hand on a grinding stone. It often comes extra sweet with cinnamon or vanilla.
6. Empanadas
Empanadas are a common stuffed pastry in Latin America.
In Guatemalan food culture they prefer the vegetarian version. Fillings of potato and/or spinach are popular, but other fillings like meat, cheese, or corn are around too.

Chile Relleno
Chile relleno is a Mexican dish that is also popular in Guatemala.
It is a stuffed pimiento pepper.
In Guatemala they use vegetables and shredded pork. They then fry the pepper with an egg batter and serve it inside a bun or alone with tomato sauce.

1. Tikal

Semuc Champey is “where the river hides under the stones”. It has a 300 meter natural limestone bridge spanning over the Cahabón River.

5. Pacaya
Pacaya is an active volcano 2,552 meters high. After 70 years of dormancy it erupted in the 1960’s and continues to do so frequently.

6. Volcán de Fuego
The “Volcano of Fire” is famous for being constantly active, albeit at a low level. It spouts small bursts of ash and gas several times an hour.
7. Lake Petén Itzá
At 99 km², Lake Petén is the second largest lake in Guatemala. Its maximum depth is 160 meters.
Lake Petén Itzá has a lot of migration activity and archeological sights. You can spot crocodiles, several big cat species, exotic birds, and more.
On the northeast shore is a butterfly reserve which also has monkeys, toucans, and other species.
8. Tikal Temple IV
Tikal Temple IV is a pyramid in the Tikal Ruins (#1 on this list). It is the tallest pre-Columbian structure in the Americas – 70 meters tall.

9. Arco de Santa Catalina
This 17th century structure is a landmark in Antigua and once connected the Santa Catalina convent to a school.

10. Palacio Nacional de la Cultura

1. Ciudad Mitad del Mundo
The Ciudad Mitad del Mundo is the 30 meter high monument showing the line of the equator.

5. Galápagos National Park
The Galápagos National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Ecuador’s oldest national park.
This 3000+ square mile park protects the diversity of the Galápagos islands.
It is home to many native species including the giant tortoise and marine iguana.
6. Chimborazo
Chimborazo is the highest mountain in Ecuador and about 20km wide at its base.
Surrounding Chimborazo are mountains, jungle, desert, and more.

7. Bartolomé Island
Bartolomé Island is one of the younger islands in the Galápagos archipelago and is actually a volcanic islet.
It’s landscape, although small (1/2 a square mile), is breathtaking.
The biggest attraction of Bartolomé Island is Pinnacle Rock. Here you can snorkel and visit the underwater world. Wildlife to spot include penguins, green turtles, herons, and more.
On the island are a variety of colored formations.
You can also climb the volcano for a great view of the surrounding islands.

El Cajas National Park is famous for is hiking. You can walk through the cloud forests and visit the many lakes. If you’re lucky, you can spot giant hummingbirds, condors, coatis, and more.

Travel in Kyrgyzstan
1. Issyk-Kul
Issyk-Kul is the second largest saline lake in the world, and also the second largest mountain lake. This lake is in the Tian Shan Mountains, and although surrounded by snow-capped mountains, it never freezes. Issyk-Kul translates to “warm lake”.
2. Song Kol Lake
Song Kölm is the largest freshwater lake in Kyrgyzstan, and the second largest overall. The first is Issyk Kul.
A beautiful mountain scenery surrounds Song Kol, but getting there can be difficult. You can only access it from June to September and once there you need to rely on local herders for supplies.
3. Ala Archa National Park
About 40km south of Bishkek is the 200 square kilometer Ala Archa National Park. Inside the part is the highest peak in the Kyrgyz Ala-tau range of the Tian Shan, Peak Semenova Tian-Shanski. It is almost 5000 meters high.
Ala Archa National Park also has the Adygene gorge.
This is a wooded valley with waterfalls, springs, and other scenery.

4. Burana Tower
The Burana Tower and other artefacts are the remains of Balasagun. Balasagun city dates back to the 9th century.
Burana Tower was once 45 meters tall, but now it is only 25. It is safe to climb the staircase inside it to the top.

5. Tash Rabat
Tash Rabat is 15th century stone caravanserai. It’s an amazing piece of historical architecture. The whole area is great for hiking. To the North is a ruined fortress and to the South is Lake Chatyr-Kul.
A caravanserai is like a traveler’s inn. Tash Rabat is not in operation, but you can rent a yurt off the caretakers.
6. Ala-Too Square
Ala-Too Square is the main square in Bishkek. They hold celebrations and other events there. When there is no special event happening, it is a good place to eat snacks and people watch.
7. Sulayman Mountain
Sulayman Mountain is a World Heritage Site in Osh. Historically, it was a place of pilgrimage. These days it is a popular place for the amazing view and there are stairs to the peak.

Named after the former Russian President, Boris Yeltsin Peak is a mountain in the Tian Shan mountain range. Before 2002 they called is Oguz Bashi.

The Fergana Mountain Range 206 km long. Its highest peak is about 4900m high.
This range separates the Fergana Valley and the inner Tian Shan.

Picadillo is ground beef and tomatoes mixed with other vegetables and spices.

Traditional food in the Bahamas is mostly spices and seafood, but there are other things to try too. The American South has an influence in seasonings and sides while the mains are closer to Caribbean cuisine. One thing is for sure, local Bahamian cuisine is colorful and delicious. 1. Conch Salad
This is raw conch in a spicy citrus sauce. Don’t worry, the citric acid “cooks” the meat. Being a salad, you can expect it to come with tomatoes, cucumbers, and celery, etc.
2. Baked Crab
Combine crab with bread crumbs, eggs, and seasoning and then bake it in the crab’s shell. This dish is a local favorite.
3. Rock Lobster
These spiny lobsters are steamed or boiled and served in several ways. You can find rock lobster in salads, “burger” patties, or mixed in Creole sauces.

Guava Duff is a classic Bahamian dessert. It is guava wrapped in dough and boiled. Top it of with a sweet rum sauce.

A delicious seafood snack of seasoned conch meat fried in batter.

They coat these slow cooked ribs in a honey tamarind sauce. Delicious.

Paradise Island

Blue Lagoon Island
This small, private island was once a stopover for pirates to cull salt. Nowadays it is a tourist attraction only 5km from Nassau.
Fort Fincastle
Lord Dunmore built Fort Fincastle in the late 1700s. It is on Society Hill overlooking Nassau and the Queen’s Staircase. It was a lighthouse until 1817 and then a signal station.

Queen’s Staircase

Chicharron is pork rind. Mote is white hominy corn. Cook them together and top with pickled onion and chili and you get one delicious dish.

6. Pescado Encocado
This traditional coastal dish is sea bass in a seasoned coconut sauce. Ingredients include cilantro, tomatoes, citrus, and a variety of spices.
They often make it with other types of fish, and even other types of seafood.

7. Morcilla
Morcilla is blood sausage and the ones in Ecuador are like the rest of the world.
They get animal blood and mix it with a filler such as meat, fat, or cornmeal. Then they stuff it into a sausage.

8. Carne en Palito
Carne en Palito is thin meat seasoned with achiote, cumin, garlic, and orange juice. They then grill the meat on a skewer.
9. Seco de Chivo
Seco de Chivo is goat stew. The stew sauce has a variety of ingredients including cilantro, cumin, garlic, peppers, tomatoes, and other spices.
Like many dishes in Ecuador, Seco de Chivo often comes with rice and sides of avocado and plantain.

10. Locro
Locro is a popular mountain stew and is a national dish of Ecuador and a few other countries in the region. It is a mixture of bean, corn, and potato. The potato is papa chola, which is specific to the Andes.
In Ecuador there is also yahuarlocro. This adds lamb blood and entrails into the stew.
