The Story That Waited 22 Years
I wrote Sincerely Yours in 2002.
At the time, it was just a book—another story I needed to get out of my system. But some stories don’t leave you when you finish writing them. They stay with you. They evolve with you. They grow as you grow.
This one stayed with me for 22 years.
At its core, it has always been about one thing: choices have consequences. That truth never changed. What changed was me—how I understood it, how I lived it, and how life kept reinforcing it in ways I couldn’t ignore.
Bringing it to film two decades later didn’t feel like adaptation. It felt like catching up. Like something that had been waiting on me to be ready.
I had been living with these characters in my head for all those years. Long after the last page was written, they were still there—talking, moving, revealing new layers I didn’t notice before. So when it came time to cast the film, the process felt almost strange in how natural it was. It didn’t feel like finding characters—it felt like recognizing people I already knew.
That’s what 22 years does to a story. It stops being something you created… and starts becoming something you’ve lived with.
There’s a personal weight to that kind of journey. Seeing something you wrote in another version of yourself finally exist in the real world forces you to sit with time—who you were, who you became, and everything you didn’t understand yet when you first wrote it.
Sincerely Yours also exists inside the same creative universe as Block Party. If you’ve been following that world, you’ll recognize the threads—characters, energy, and emotional DNA that connects it all. These stories don’t live separately. They build on each other.
At its core, this film is still what it was in 2002: a reminder that every decision carries a ripple. Some are small. Some change everything.
And now, after 22 years of living with it, writing it, and finally bringing it to life… it’s no longer just a story in my head.
It’s on screen.
