Simon Spiegel, 1977 in Basel geboren, hat von 1998 bis 2003 in Zürich und Berlin Germanistik und Filmwissenschaft studiert. 2006 Promotion in Filmwissenschaft zum Science-Fiction-Film. 2017 mit dem «Prix Pathé – Preis der Schweizer Filmpublizistik» ausgezeichnet. 2018 Habilitation in Medienwissenschaft an der Universität Bayreuth mit einer Untersuchung zur positiven Utopie im nichtfiktionalen Film. Spiegel lebt mit Frau und zwei Kindern in Zürich.
