Jim DeFilippi is a crime novelist (DUCK ALLEY, BLOOD SUGAR, JESUS BURNED) and humor writer. His crime novels are all times humorous; his humor writing at times is criminal. Newsday called his stuff “Suspenseful, often hilarious,” Publishers Weekly added, “Excellently paced and imaginatively told,” but his favorite blurb is “Whoa, that was good.”

The characters is this well researched, well reported book are so focused, self centered and quirky, that I wish Christopher Guest and his great cast were still together to make a BEST IN SHOW version of the chess world.

This book is a captivating meld of travelogue and history text. My only complaint is that I feel the author, from Connecticut, short-changed New England.

Brilliantly told. Nobody tells a crime story like Higgins. Impeccable dialogue. This novel became an equally good movie starring Brad Pitt called KILLING THEM SOFTLY.
