It's Tom Robbins, he's smart and smart-alecky. Either you like him or you don't.

I made it through 42% of the audiobook before deciding to call it quits. The writing is good but distractingly overwrought and pleased with itself. I felt like I'd been

“Of course anyone who truly loves books buys more of them than he or she can hope to read in one fleeting lifetime. A good book, resting unopened in its slot on a shelf, full of majestic potentiality, is the most comforting sort of intellectual wallpaper.”
David Quammen, The Boilerplate Rhino: Nature in the Eye of the Beholder

Joseph Gordon-Levitt
“His hands were weak and shaking from carrying far too many books from the bookshop. It was the best feeling.”
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, The Tiny Book of Tiny Stories, Vol. 1

Thomas Hardy
“The real sin ma'am, in my mind lies in thinking of ever wedding with a man you don't love honest and true.”
Thomas Hardy, Far From the Madding Crowd

Erin Morgenstern
“Before you leave, the fortune teller reminds you that the future is never set in stone.”
Erin Morgenstern, The Night Circus

Terry Pratchett
“The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.”
Terry Pratchett, Diggers
