J.F.R. Coates is a speculative fiction author, focusing in fantasy and science fiction. Her work tends to focus away from the human characters of the setting, instead giving life to the creatures that dwell alongside the familiar. Dirus' Gift

A dragon meets up with an old friend to learn some new information.

While the first story felt nicely enclosed, this was definitely an interesting continuation.

I feel like the author managed it well to present a main character who is unable to speak and has very little way of communicating to anyone else, while still
