"Jamaica has Dunn's River Falls"
(Patti Phillips writing as Detective Kerrian)
I have to confess that when Sheila announced that Jamaica was our vacation destination, I had my doubts. After all, it’s awfully far to go to get beach time. I mean, New Jersey has some of the best beaches in the world. Not that I’ve been there lately with all the cases that popped up before I got shot, but the hot sand is still there, waiting for me whenever I want to drive down for the day.
It turned out that Dunn’s River Falls was only one of several great excursions, not just for tourists, but for the locals as well. And it’s got some history. The area around Dunn’s River Falls was the site of the battle of Las Chorreras, fought between the Spanish and the English in 1657. The English won and took over Jamaica. The Dunn’s River beach was even featured in a James Bond movie, “Dr. No.”
The guide said that the falls rise six hundred feet above the Caribbean Sea. Our group made a human chain and went from the sea to the top by climbing up the limestone steps created by hundreds of years of cascading water crashing against the stone. Sheila and I got our picture taken while standing in our bathing suits in an icy pool on a wide terrace about half way up. We had some shots printed from the trip and my scars from the bullets are hardly noticeable. That’s a side trip I would do again.

Meet Detective Charlie Kerrian
I count myself extremely fortunate to have lived the life I have.
Am I a millionaire? Not by a long shot. I don’t run a tab and pay with cash when I can.
Do I live in a mansion, with servants at my beck and call? Nope! Servants would get in the way and are better off working for the President. Me? I have simpler tastes and needs.
What makes me happy is solving cases and the honest serenity of life on the golf course. When not doing that, you can find me in the kitchen with my wife working on new recipes, or listening to music, or writing, not necessarily in that order. If friends and family behave, they can join us anytime for a great home-cooked meal and some iced coffee or sweet tea. And, always a great dessert.
On another day, I’ll tell you about the murder at the resort, but today my feet are up and the coffee is nice and strong. I am blessed.
