The Big Fight

I wrote on my tumblr about the Amazon-Hachette fight and how the battle lines seem to encompass tradtional publishing vs self publishing, with authors on both sides squaring off in support of their corporate allies/masters.

Some people even seem to have liked it.

More of the same chaos and implausible fun. Thing is, it works and there is some developing politics at work too."

Mark Z. Danielewski
“Passion has little to do with euphoria and everything to do with patience. It is not about feeling good. It is about endurance. Like patience, passion comes from the same Latin root: pati. It does not mean to flow with exuberance. It means to suffer.”
Mark Z. Danielewski, House of Leaves

Laura M. Hughes
“All angels are men, all men are crows, and all crows are liars.”
Laura M. Hughes, Danse Macabre

G.R. Matthews
“You must be ready to change and be aware when things are changing. For instance, even now, outside the door is something that will change today's lesson. You must learn to listen between the rain drops. A change, when it comes, will step lightly before it kicks like thunder. Hear the light steps and be ready for the thunder.”
G.R. Matthews, The Stone Road

Laura M. Hughes
“You say glory, necessity, pride; I say barbarity, greed, arrogance. War is a search for glory, for that particular sense of joy and satisfaction that comes from staking one's life on the outcome of a gamble. The search for a cheap thrill, with a cost too dear for Midas, and on a pretext that, more or less, amounts to 'My neighbour has a thing. I want it.”
Laura M. Hughes, Art of War

Martin Luther King Jr.
“It’s all right to tell a man to lift himself by his own bootstraps, but it is cruel jest to say to a bootless man that he ought to lift himself by his own bootstraps.”
Martin Luther King Jr.
