Meet Lady Helena from The Lady Tempts an Heir
Here's a character board I made for Lady Helena from The Lady Tempts an Heir. She's a widow who is an independent woman and doesn't need a man in her life, except she sort of does because her parents are pushing her to marry again and her radical charity for "fallen women" needs a strong male backer to be considered legitimate. *insert eyeroll*
She turns to Maxwell Crenshaw for help, but there's just something about him that has her wanting more than a business arrangement.
From early in the book:
Maxwell Crenshaw had the most divine mouth she had ever seen. Helena had watched it throughout dinner. She told herself it was because he sat across from her and, really, how could one not allow one’s gaze to drift to it now and again, but that did not explain why she continued watching it now that dinner was over and the men had rejoined the ladies in the drawing room.

A lamp burned in the far corner, having been lit to invite private conversation if someone needed to step away from the rest of the guests. It cast a pale, yellow light over one side of the room while leaving the other in shadow. The effect created a false sense of privacy, as if they were the only ones in the house. His skin felt tighter, too small for his body, as every nerve ending came alive.
She whirled around to face him. Her eyes were bright, but he couldn’t tell if she was angry or not. Into the silence, he said, “I won’t apologize for what I said.”
