What is the best way to describe an author who writes humorous fantasy?

Do we tell about bookshelves full of fantasy, science fiction, and paranormal books, his love of mythology, or the years he spent as dungeon master? Or is it more important to know his favorite player-character was a chaotic-good elf? What about that stack of old comic books he never seems to get rid of?

But there's a serious side too. The other half of his bookshelf is filled with books on management, marketing, computer programming, and financial analysis? What about his years as a hospital president, or the many businesses he created, his years as a stock trader? What about his early years counseling drug addicts?

Is there a pattern to his travels around the world? Wh

I think, more than anything, I love to play with ideas. I like to pick something up and examine it from every angle. Many of our concepts are accepted without question. I love to twist them around and see if they still hold up.

For example, in the world of The Universe Builders, they think of the universes and the creatures they create as mere tools - toys even - to be discarded if they no longer meet the purpose for which they were created. So my protagonist is the one who asks questions like "How are the creatures we create any different from us? What is it that makes us special that they do not have?" It gives me a fun way to play with ideas and concepts without offending anyone.

Hi, Debbie.

I just love this hat. I have about 6-7 just like it. As to me resembling Terry Pratchett, I take that as a high compliment. He is the author that I try the hardest to emulate with my writing. It's amazing to me how many times reviewers comment on the similarity in writing style.

Please forgive my delay in responding, Debbi. But I wanted to put together a post while I was at it:

Thank you for your comment!

A New Title for Bernie and the Putty

My book is a humorous fantasy/scifi about a young god who builds universes for a living. It’s popular with both adults and young adults. It’s won 16 awards for excellence. But I’m not sure I have the right title.

I’m looking for new title ideas that are guaranteed to stop the reader and make him/her want to know more.

“It was unfair. Suzie’s shimmer flared red, as anger and outrage filled her body. She wanted to strike back; she had to strike back. If she could, she would have turned on the beast. But it was out of reach. Instead she struck at the one thing she cared about more than anything in the world. With an anger that had nowhere else to go, she hit Bernie in the chest. “Don’t you dare leave me,” she cried as she struck him again, this time with both fists. Her anger and her fury turned into repeated blows as she pounded his chest again and again. The boy she loved had abandoned her.”

“Bernie spent Monday morning doing research in the library.”

“It had been easy to escape into her books, where she discovered her fascination with history. History books overflowed with interesting people, heroes and heroines, the strong and the confident, and the bigger than life people who had shaped their world.”
