Geeky Book of Horror
The Geeky Book Of Horror
Kickstarter Campaign
A group of talented writers are creating a horror anthology. Writers Victor Wright (Author of Light of Darkness), Jeremy Biggs (Writer of Bearlands), Nathan Slack (Writer of Risen) and John Robinson are proud to announce their new Kickstarter campaign, which will kick off on 7th July.
‘The Geeky Book Of Horror’ is an anthology of horror stories like those you grew up with. All of the stories are new never before published. The twisted set of tales will suit the demands of today’s horror aficionado and will produce just the right amount of spine chill.

When asked what the goal of the anthology is meant to be Victor Wright stated “We wanted to write a book that would chill you to the bone; I think this does just that!" Wright is the author of the 'Light of Darkness’ series of books and several top selling independent comic titles as well as being MARsocial ‘Author of the Year 2014’ runner up and Writers Bureau ‘2014 Writer of the Year’ runner up. "It's great to be working alongside such top talent. These guys are gonna freak you out,” says Wright about his co-writers, all of whom have successfully published their own titles. One of the collaborators for the project is Jeremy Biggs who is not only the author of Bearlands series but also of the highly successful Kickstarter campaign - ‘Metal Made Flesh’.
The anthology will be approximately 128 pages, a total which is subject to change, and will carry two stories or more from each writer. As each writer has their own style, artists from all over the world will be supplying the illustrations. These include Mario Gully (Image Comics/Marvel) creator of ‘Ant’ the hit series by Image Comics and Maxi Quy a water colour painter living in New York. In order to link each of the stories in the anthology and in keeping with the theme of horror stories from the past these illustrations will be in black and white.
Geeky Comics, founded by Victor Wright is an independent publisher specialising in War, Horror and Crime titles. As an international team, they bring you the hottest creators in the comic scene. They are based in the UK, but ship their titles worldwide. In an effort to bring their fans only the very best the comic world has to offer, they welcome both positive and negative feedback. Whether you choose to write to them or to speak to them in person at one of the many comic conventions which they attend every year, they will not be sorry to see or hear from you and will answer all questions you may have.
The creators are asking for £6000 to produce the graphic novel. Backers who pledge £20 will receive a copy of the book, while the higher tiers will receive artwork, signed copies of the book, merchandise and much more. If funded, The Geeky Book Of Horror is due for release in December of 2014. The campaign will start on the Kickstarter platform on July 7th.

The Internet Attracts eBooks Authors Like Beer Attracts Bees!
The Internet Attracts eBooks Authors Like Beer Attracts Bees!
Self-publishing couldn’t be simpler, could it? Well, to be honest, it can be a bit of a battleground. It starts with a battle between you and other authors, and continues as you fight to secure the most important person of all – the reader!
Let’s take it step by step. You’ve finished your literary work of art and are now ready, after many months of preparation, to sell it to the masses. Your main aim is to reduce costs, so you decide to publish in an eBook format. All you have to do now is to let people know it’s available. Which is easy, right? You publish your book on Amazon or sites such as Smashwords, then sit back and enjoy the cash rolling in. In a perfect world that would great.
Now, imagine the Internet as a library with millions of books. Try to visualise it – about about a million times bigger than your local library! Place your book on one of the shelves. Then, try to imagine a stranger coming into the library, who’s never heard of you or your book – how’s he going to find it? Can you see the difficulty presented to you? Unless you have endless pockets full of marketing money to promote your book, you are in a bit of a quandary.
Of course, if you make your book stand out, there’s a greater chance that it will be noticed. And there are a few simple steps you can take to improve your prospects with online sellers, such as Amazon. A good author page will increase your ranking. Adding a decent profile, photograph of yourself and links to your website will also increase your ranking. You can also add a video and join the affiliate program, which could see you jump from position 900,000 to 200,000 in an instant. It won’t solve your problem though.
So what else can you do to make your book visible to the Internet buyer?
Reviews are a must and can mean the difference between a reader purchasing or not. However, they can be costly. There are companies that specialise in this type of work. My opinion of family and friends putting reviews online is quite negative, purely because they will be biased. Some authors exchange like for like – you read their book and they read yours. Both of you do this with the understanding that honesty is a requirement of any review produced. You can offer your book for free to anyone who will review it, but don’t expect your reviewer to hurry with the write up and don’t get upset if it isn’t done at all.
Blog tours are a great way of getting noticed and will encourage others to post information about your book on their site. They get the value of your news and you get the promotion to their readers.
You see it’s all about visibility. If your potential readers can see your book when they walk into the library, there’s more chance they will pick it up.
To truly understand the pitfalls of self-publishing, one must go through it. In this little blog post, it would be impossible to go into detail. Just remember one thing – it’s not all bad. There are many advantages to self- publishing, but that’s another story!
Victor Wright is a self-published author currently enjoying worldwide success with his book and comic titles. His work is gaining him respect in the community, as well as winning him awards, as he travels the UK signing books for his fans. Victor feels that without the backing and support offered by the Writer Bureau Comprehensive Creative Writing Course his writing would be somewhat different today. You can find out more about him here:

The Trilogy!
‘Days of Reckoning’
is the first book in the ‘Light of Darkness’ trilogy. It’s about a college girl, who discovers she is an angel and is being hunted by Seribulous, ‘The Son of Satan’ for her purebred soul.
After her father mysteriously disappears when she is a child, Poppy our heroine, spends most of her life wondering what had become of him. A bizarre series of ‘Crucifixion Murders’ slowly unravels the truth as the lead investigator Brendan, pieces the mystery together and falls in love with her.
This fast paced, action horror keeps you gripped to your seat as the characters deliver a tension filled story. If you like twists, this book is filled with them - it’s follow up ‘Restless Souls’(due April 2014) promises to deliver yet again more.
Having come third in the Writers Bureau ‘Writer of the Year 2014’ competition and nominated as a finalist, for Marsocial ‘Author of the Year 2014’ – I’m looking forward to delivering an explosive year of writing to my readers.
