Blog Tour and Review: Arks of Octava
Arks of Octava The Scribbler Guardianby bestselling authorLucian Bane
AmazonFantasy Romance Series, The Trilogy BeginsJeramiah Poe isn’t just any character in the Realm of Fiction; he is Muse Master—Destiny Diviner—Mysterious Miskriat. Being of neither the Traditional Genre Provinces nor Independent, Poe enjoys an eternal lease on life, so long as his Scribbler keeps him out of publication. Poe meets Kane, a seven-year-old boy from the Independent Horror Province, where he learns ancient codes are being broken and the horror that should be an act, is real. But the evil clutching Octava is not new and Seven Arks have been sent to Earth to stop it. Only something has gone wrong and Poe is commissioned as the 8th Ark of Octava to discover what has become of the Seven. But his passage to Earth comes with revelations he's not prepared for. Not only does his Scribbler not know of his existence, he's a she that his human form seems allergic to. Poe soon realizes that with each Ark he locates, his powers grow along with his feelings for the Scribbler. And the enemy will try and use both to gain control of the two realms.

Excerpt“Mr. Poe?” Poe turned abruptly at the worried sound of Kane’s voice, and panicked at seeing his body had gone translucent. “I have to go now, Mr. Poe.”“What’s wrong?” Poe reached for him and his hands passed through the boy. “Kane! Are you dying in your story?” “I have to get back Mr. Poe. They’re coming now.” “Why are you crying? You’ll come back first chance. I’ll be here. Do you know the name of your story, Kane?” “I’m scared, Mr. Poe.” The real fear in the boy’s voice alarmed him and before he could ask anything else, he was gone. A flash of panic sent Poe shooting into the air and out of the bog, aiming for Octava’s Athenaeum. He landed too quickly and went sprawling for several feet before bounding up and running up the hundred flight stairs of the realm’s library. Poe flashed his credentials as he walked in and the head Athenaeum Officer nodded. He didn’t have time to fiddle with the intricate Library’s search program and found instead the Librarian. “I need help locating a story, it’s direly important.” The woman turned ever so slowly, her curt expression matching her pristine white dress-suit—the Athenaeum’s dress code. “Genre?” “Horror,” he shot out. She raised a brow for more information and Poe shook his head. “I don’t know, search them all.” Her painful pace indicated the necessity of speed one never needed in Octava. “Do you happen to have a title?” “No.” She shook her head with raised brows at the screen. “There are thousands here. We could be here all day and evening.” But her tone indicated that was quite fine, she had nothing better to do. “Kane!” Poe forgot he could search by name in the cast. “There’s a character named Kane in it.” “Last name?” “Not sure, I don’t think so, I think it’s his first.” “I mean do you have a last name.” “No, I don’t.” Poe wanted to strangle himself for not getting something so simple all this time. “Traditional or non?” “I don’t know,” Poe gasped. The woman eyed Poe with confused concern before fluttering her fingers over the glass surface of the screen. “I find four possible matches.” “The boy is seven. Look for a seven-year-old.” “Ah. Sons of Insurrection. Has to be that one. It’s Independent and an SG. Paranormal Horror.” “Coordinates,” Poe begged, trying not to yell. He ran out the second she gave the information and took to the air upon exiting the building, barely missing several security officials in winged flight. Within five minutes, he landed at the story set. A dingy, rundown hospital with a dilapidation befitting the best of any horror story. The energy in the air sent a sensation through Poe that drew tiny bumps to the surface of his skin and a tingling along his spine. Octava’s laws forbid anybody to barge right into a Story and so Poe had to carefully study the set around him. Spotting a lower window at the very bottom of the building, he hurried to it, remembering Kane’s comment about his playhouse under the stairs. Lowering to the ground he peered through the darkness. Nothing. Poe listened, closing his eyes, fighting to connect with the energy inside the insidious place.
ReviewCopy provided by author for an honest review.4.5 StarsThis was an awesome book, it pulled me in and kept me there. There's a little bit of everything in it for different readers. It's a different world that writers and readers alike can imagine, there's even hints to the on going struggle between indie authors and traditional authors. There characters were great, they were all well developed where they needed too and let's face it, I'm in love with Poe. I want more. It's a cross between Stranger than Fiction and Ink Heart. I did feel that the romance part of it was a little predictable, but it's romance, so I should have expected that. The sex was hot and steamy, which is always a plus.
Overall, I can't wait until the next one. There needs to be more Poe in my life. If you want something different and entertaining, make sure you pick this one up!
Lucian's BioWelcome to my world My name is Lucian Bane and I’ve heard from many that I’m the odd one out. But really, I’m just a Husband, an Author, and a Christian Dom. Ah, maybe that’s the one that makes everybody pause. Oxymoron? Not at all. As an author, I like to write stories—paranormal erotica—contemporary erotica and fantasy romance about men who honor, cherish, and protect the women they love. But more importantly, I also attempt to make these stories a reality for couples everywhere by teaching them in the form of fiction how to add heat and passion to marriages and relationships that might not have it. Teach them how to build life-long commitments that form strong families, like I have with my own beautiful wife. I think there are many men like myself, and I hope my writing will be a map for them. A map for women as well, to teach them how to bring out the Dom that exists within the men they call boyfriend or husband. As young men, our inner Doms need a master to train them. I once bowed to my inner Dom's reckless and tireless desires, but when I gave myself to God and conformed my will to His, the transformation made me into what I am today. What many would call an Ineffable Dom. But its equal term in the Vanilla world, in my opinion, is simply a real man.

Excerpt:
"When are you going to quit coming to work looking like shit?"MacMillian raised his head off his desk, groaned, and dropped it back down. Morning sunshine flooded through the window of his office. The room was spinning, and the inside of his mouth tasted like stale whiskey. The old man's wake had been a rousing success. Not that he ever needed an excuse to drink."Maybe when you finally quit shouting. Jesus, Darius, you know I hate it when you shout first thing in the morning."His partner snorted and started across the room. "I'll do worse than that, you don't pull yourself together. We got clients, and I don't think they want to talk to me."MacMillian groaned again, and sat up. "Clients?""Yeah. You know, people who'll give us money in exchange for work."MacMillian scowled. "Asshole. Fine, let them in."Darius was already at the door to his adjoining office. "I look like your fucking secretary? Let them in yourself." He disappeared inside. The door shut behind him with a decisive bang.MacMillian sneered at it and dragged himself to his feet. Mornings like this, he almost wished he had a business partner who didn't scare the hell out of people. Almost. Darius deCompostela was as hard-nosed and brilliant as he was intimidating, and he'd never seen him back down from a fight.Combined, those things were worth having to conduct an interview with a pounding hangover.MacMillian took the walk across his office slower than was strictly necessary, paused in front of the door to fish a breath mint out of his pocket. He popped it into his mouth, slapped what he hoped would pass for a friendly look on his face, and opened the door. The couple seated on the sagging couch in the reception area looked up in unison. The woman shrank back a little, and MacMillian stifled a grimace. Apparently he needed to work on his "friendly" face.He leaned against the door frame. "I'm Jesper MacMillian. How can I help you?"The couple glanced at each other. They both rose to their feet. The man cleared his throat. "You're Jesper MacMillian?""Last I checked.""You're the new king?"MacMillian pressed his lips together. Thank god Darius hadn't heard that. "Just keeping the seat warm. You must be the Vaspurkans. My grandmother sent you, didn't she?"The man nodded. "I'm Istvan, and this is my wife, Sonya. Vali Vasa and my mother are old friends. The two of them seem to think you can help us.""Maybe." MacMillian retreated into his office, jerked his head for them to follow. He didn't turn back around until he reached his desk. The couple hovered in the doorway, eyes flicking around the room. They reminded him of a pair of nervous moths. He sank into his swivel chair and motioned to the two seats across from him. "Guess you'd better sit down." He waited until they complied, then leaned back until the chair's ancient springs creaked. "So, Mamíomentioned a missing son?"Istvan nodded, and Sonya's face twisted like she was going to cry. MacMillian braced himself, but she quickly recovered. "That's right. We haven't heard from him for nearly a week now."MacMillian pursed his lips. "Is that unusual?""Yes!" Sonya took a deep breath. "Jimmy's a good boy. He's had his troubles, but he would never just... just..."Istvan took over. "Jimmy was never what you would call devout. He was always curious, always wanting to spend more time in the gaji-kanó than at home. I saw what he was doing, but I thought he was just a young man, doing what young men do. I thought he'd grow out of it."MacMillian didn't speak.Istvan dropped his gaze. "But then he started spending more and more time away. When he was at home, he scarcely even acknowledged the taboos. About a year back, he was finally declared marimeand expelled from the kumpania."MacMillian rocked a little. His chair squeaked in protest. "So if he's been gone for a year, why are you coming to me now?"Sonya shook her head. "It wasn't like that. He might have been expelled, but he still kept in contact. We would see him several times a week." Her lips twisted. "If anything, we saw him more after he left."MacMillian leaned forward and fished a notepad and pen from the top drawer of his desk. "What can you tell me about his life outside the community? Friends, girlfriends, where he lived, his job..."Sonya wrinkled her nose. "He invited us to where he was staying once, one of those filthy hotels in the Tenderloin." She shuddered. "I wanted to soak in holy water for a week after we left that place. I have the address somewhere." She snapped open her faded purse.Istvan watched her for a moment, then looked up. "He didn't spend much time there. You see it, you'll understand why. But the last time he came around, he mentioned he was doing odd jobs at a tea shop in South Market."Sonya paused. "Cross Your Teas. He was helping the owner repair some of the kitchen equipment. Jimmy's a good tinker." Her eyes misted. "His grandfather taught him."Istvan took her hand, and turned to MacMillian. "Maybe he took a different path than we'd hoped. Maybe the kris has decided he's not officially tsigani anymore, but he's still our blood. Our firstborn. Find him." His dark eyes were suspiciously bright. "Please."

Excerpt
I braced my hand on her ankle, pressing it into the couch as I slid my fingers over her inner thighs. "I'm going to lick you here." I stroked along her open folds, letting my finger dip barely. "Your body tells on you, love. You're so wet. And hot." I barely touched her clit and she gave me my first point. A tiny moan. The first vocalized of very many to come."Am I right? Is it hot right here?" Again I whispered my finger over her clit a few times. She strained against the pleasure and nodded."I know love." I teased barely at her entrance. "I'm going to finger you until you're bucking on my hand like a good girl." She was there. On fire. Ready to listen. I used my entire hand to softly caress her sex, feeling the exact shape of her. I delivered a sharp smack to the puckered lips and she yelped in surprise. I rubbed it softly, tickling at her clit then sliding down for a tease at her dripping entrance. "Your pussy says you like that." I dipped the tip of my finger in her opening, wetting it. I licked it, and shuddered at how good she tasted. Smelled. "You're fucking delicious baby."She whimpered and I answered with another firm smack. She arched her back and squirmed, keeping her arms obediently above her head. "I told you I would make you squirm, love. Did you not believe me?" I plunged my finger inside her and she cried out. "Mmm. You're so fucking wet. You hear it?" I jabbed deep and quick then switched to slow sensual, then again to shallow fast. "You're so tight on my finger." I pulled out, gliding my finger softly over silk to adore her clit with lazy circles, then flicks, making her writhe, moan, and buck her hips. I knelt next to her, needing to taste. The hard tips of her nipples demanded my attention, driving my desire to that reckless point. I smacked her pussy and tended her breasts with dominance, filling my mouth with as much of the firm mound as I could. I sucked then let it slowly glide out to hold it captive between my lips for vigorous flicks of my tongue. She broke the invisible bond I'd put on her wrists and buried her fingers in my hair. Joy surged through me and I moved to her mouth to lick and kiss. "This is for breaking your bonds, love." I spanked her pussy and consumed the sweet cry she gave in my mouth. "This is for taking so fucking long to break it." I plunged my finger deep inside her."Lucian.""Yes. Say it." I rammed my finger against that secret doorway, intent on breaking through. "Say it baby."All of her control flailed like leaves in an errant wind. "Lucian. Lucian." "Fuck, baby. I can hear it. I hear all your beautiful secrets in my name. I want them. I want you. All of you. Give me what's fucking mine."I placed the palm of my hand against her clit putting circular pressure while I continued to unlock paradise from inside. I tasted the passion pouring out of her in rippling unstoppable waves. Hearing her orgasm approach, I lifted my head to watch it, watch as she let it all go for me. "Lucian! Yes, oh God!"I watched as my hand and fingers stripped away her control and burst through that prison entrapping her. I kissed her. "Break for me. Come undone baby, I'm here. I'm here, you're safe."She suddenly pulled me against her, nails raking my skin, and that sweet body arched hard into mine as her orgasm trembled through her with a desperate cry of freedom. In my ear. In my heart. Fucking amazing. But I was hardly done.

A kind of update...
So if you follow me you know that I've started advertising for Twisted Redemption again. You might be wondering why. When I had posted about my own personal issues with Ellora's Cave, I hadn't received any check, nor any statements. The book came out in July and I knew that I had made a few sales at least in release month. My check finally came in December, it was more than I anticipated (though not huge), a second check came a couple weeks later, smaller. One of my partners in crime received all hers, plus a check for September. I did not. Why? My guess is because I didn't make any sales.
You see, I decided to look at this a different way. I can't complain about checks not showing up if money is not due to me. (not to say I make a habit of complaining.) I've really taken a hard look at what I want out of my writing life and career and it's to make a living. I'm not greedy, but I can't make money from a book I don't promote. My opinion about EC doesn't hold any weight if I don't try to make the sales to get the checks that may or may not come. So, I decided to treat Twisted Redemption like I would any of my indie titles, and put it in my rotation of marketing. The readers can make the choice on if they want to purchase and EC book or not. The only way I'm going to see if getting checks will be a constant thing is to make sales. That being said, I will not be turning over anymore of my works to EC because of how they treat this whole situation.

Synopsis
Linda moves to a seaside town to live a quiet life. She opens a bookstore and makes new friends. Life is simple--that is until the dead body washes up on shore. Linda is horrified to find that dead bodies and disappearing tourists are common for this small town. As soon as the sun sets, the residents and tourists are stalked by dark shadows. But this is only the beginning.Linda and her friends receive an unsigned invitation to a party at a deserted house. They are pursued through revolving rooms and dangerous traps, barely escaping with their lives. Two of their own remain trapped in the house. Or so they think.
They must embark on a difficult journey, chased by unnatural creatures, not knowing whom to trust, to uncover the one controlling the game and everyone in town. Who are The Dead? Are they humans or vampires? Or a combination of both? Will there be an end to their evil game? Will Linda and Todd find love? Will a second book be needed?
The Dead Game has begun.
About the Author
Susanne Leist graduated with an M.B.A. in Finance. Wherever life has led her, through the hectic commodities’ markets or the number-crunching field of budgeting, she’s continued to read and daydream. Unbeknownst to her, she had been pursuing her dream all along, her dream of putting her words down on paper for everyone to enjoy. She currently resides on Long Island with her husband, two daughters, and Maltese. Her first book, The Dead Game, is a paranormal thriller with humans, vampires, and vampire derivatives. Her goal has been to write a book different than the usual vampire story or murder mystery. She wanted a murder mystery with victims, clues, and suspects. She created that and much more. The book has revolving rooms, traps, falling cages, and anything her active imagination could create. The Dead Game is a fun ride into the realms of the supernatural.
Book Excerpt
Chapter 22Their car neared the house. A stunning sight unfolded before their eyes. Encased in a tight circle of trees, shimmering from the lights strung through their heavy branches, the glass house sparkled against the dark night sky: a huge glass ball shooting green sparks of light from within its rounded walls. Its great dome twinkled as radiantly as the multitude of stars shining down from above.
Todd left the car with the valet and led the way up the marble stairs to the rounded front door. Two armed men, dressed in tuxedos, guarded the door, their holstered guns only slightly marring the fantasy image running through Linda’s vivid imagination: for as soon as she turned away to admire the scenery, she was once again in fantasyland. The panorama facing her was doused in white. Gleaming white snow caps covered the tops of the tall trees and the great dome of the house. Snow was falling on them from somewhere. She could feel snowflakes melting on her lips. They felt wet, like real snowflakes. She touched her face and hair. Her hand came away wet. She had snow on her fingertips. She searched the grounds for a snow machine, but couldn't locate anything—not on the glass domed roof or in any of the trees. She couldn't have, genuine snow was falling on them from the dark sky. The landscape resembled a winter wonderland despite it being fall in Florida. Todd placed his hand against her back to escort her into the house. The others followed them into the glowing green ball that was alive with dazzling lights, music, and laughter. Once inside, Linda was mesmerized by the glittering glass walls that mirrored the dancing images of the guests twirling around the marble dance floor. These images were cast in bright halos of light reflected from the myriad of crystal chandeliers hanging throughout the room. Soft candlelight from mounted crystal sconces flickered across the intricate patterns carved into the green walls. It was the most beautiful and fascinating house that she had ever seen. She glanced back and watched Shana’s mouth drop open. She was certain that Shana would agree that the house appeared simply magical. Couples were swirling around the immense dance floor. They were dancing in a large studio between Diane’s life-sized statues. Each sculpture was carved from clear glass: each one revealing a full-sized person. Linda found them to be too lifelike. She stood next to one and stared into it frozen face. She was startled by a fleeting expression of horror that seemed to cross over its features; as if a real person was trapped inside, staring out at her from within his glass tomb. Then the look was gone and the statue appeared lifeless once againAuthor Interview
Please introduce yourself and tell us something about your books.
My name is Susanne Leist and I’m a new author. My book, The Dead Game is a paranormal mystery. It takes place in a small town, called Oasis, on the coast of Florida. During the day, this town is a paradise for its residents and abundant tourists with its picturesque streets, white-sand beaches, and warm waters. However, at night, the town turns dark and deadly. Dark shadows roam the streets. Tourists begin to disappear and bodies turn up dead on the beach. The evil in this town revolves around a deserted house. The younger residents are invited to a mysterious party at End House, and that is when the fun and games begin.
How did you come to write your first book and how long ago was it?
I have been reading murder mysteries and thrillers since I was a teenager. I’ve read all types of mysteries, from Agatha Christie to Sherlock Holmes. In recent years, I’ve begun to read paranormal mysteries. These books bring fantasy and the surreal to the simple murder mystery. It is hard to find books that combine paranormal with mystery. That is why I have decided to write a paranormal, murder mystery of my own. It is the type of book that I search for and love to read. My book, The Dead Game, has dead bodies and suspects like a traditional murder mystery. However, it also has humans, vampires, and vampire derivatives. And don’t forget the haunted house—we must have one of these.
When you sit down to write a new story, do you know what the ending will be before you start or does it evolve as you write?
This is the first book that I’ve written. I began with a basic idea in mind. I wanted a murder to take place in a small town. This murder would involve a house that was rigged with supernatural or mechanical traps and moving rooms. But I had no idea how the story would evolve or end. The end turned out to be a surprise to even me.
What do you do when you are not writing or reading?
When I’m not writing, I enjoy being with my family. My daughters and I love fashion and we love to shop. My husband gets dragged along. I swim twice a week and read every day.
If you could holiday anywhere in the world, where would you choose and why?
I would love to travel everywhere in the world. The only countries I’ve visited so far are Canada, England, and Israel. There are so many places I would love to see. At least I could visit them in books.
I guess, like most authors, you are an avid reader – who are your favourite authors? Do you read many books by indie authors?
My favourite author is Brad Meltzer. It is fun and easy to read his books. His words flow smoothly and keep me engrossed in the stories. I like his characters. He weaves his extensive knowledge of Washington into the story lines.I buy a book by the description on the back cover and not by the author’s name. This has led me to explore books written by a wide variety of indie authors. I found Brad Meltzer by his book’s description before I heard about him as an author.
Where do you normally source your reading material – from your local library, a bookshop, Amazon or somewhere else?
I buy books anywhere I can find them. If a book catches my eye, then I buy it. I buy online and in book stores.
Are you working on a new book at the moment?
The Dead Game is the first book in a series. The first book resolves the murder mystery, but at the same time, opens a Pandora box of new mysteries. Its surprise ending will lead to more surprises.
Once my book is further established in the marketplace, I will begin work on the second book. I have an outline and notes all ready to be used to write the next book. My writing often leads me in unknown directions, so I won’t know how the book will end until it does.
Character Questions
Who is your main character? My main character is Linda Bennett. She moves to a small town to open a bookstore with an attached coffee shop. She wants to lead a quiet and peaceful life. But she is in for a surprise, since Oasis is anything but peaceful. What should we know about her? Linda is a good person who wants to be liked by everyone. She is sweet and kind. She develops a crush on Todd, but at first, she is too shy to speak to him. Her friendship with Shana brings her out of her shell and at times, gets her into trouble. She develops the nerve to speak with him and to voice her own opinions. What is the main conflict? What messes up her life? Her crush on Todd brings complications to her life. She finds him to be aloof. At first, she is drawn to his mysterious nature. But as she gets to know him better, this mystery soon becomes off-putting to her. She believes he’s hiding secrets from her; secrets that have to do with the elusive residents, and the murders and disappearances in town. What is her personal goal? Her personal goal is to help save the town from the evil threatening to kill them. She doesn’t know if the evil controlling the town is human or a supernatural creature, but she is determined to find and destroy him or her with the help of her friends. She has a secondary goal of getting to know Todd better, and she has better luck with this than her first goal.

Grab your popcorn...another Ellora's Cave post is coming.
Like my co-author Mia Bishop, I debated on writing this out. As I sit down to do this, I know two things: I’m not as bad off as a lot of authors who are dealing with this lawsuit between Ellora’s Cave and Dear Author and I can’t stay quiet anymore. In August of 2013 Mia Bishop, Phoebe Chase, and I all signed contracts for a book, each one of us would write one book in the series. We turned our finished manuscripts in consecutively, September, October, and November. I can’t speak for the other two because that is their story to tell. This is mine.
I submitted Twisted Redemption in November, as per the contract. In December I submitted a second book, which was accepted. (Black and White) I heard very little from my first editor, there was a lot of ‘I’ll be working on it soon’ and ‘we’re so over loaded’ and ‘I’ll try to get it done in the next couple weeks’ passed around. Then there was the confusion about the order of the series. Somehow my book (which was originally supposed to be 3rd) had been moved a head of the second book. I corrected this with that editor. My second book had yet to be touched. We received news of new editors in March of 2014 (so four months for Twisted Redemption, three for Black and White) and I was one of the people being switched over.
In late April, I heard from my new editor with a general, getting things together and I’ll get you a timeline soon e-mail. (five months TR, four months B&W). I received my edits early May, Phoebe received hers a few days after. That’s right, the order had gotten screwed up when given to the new editor. My edits went quickly and smoothly, and I thought that would be the end of my bumpy road. Things were finally moving. Then the book got released, as book two. My editor informed me that there had been someone who made the choice to go ahead and release it, since each book could be read as a stand-alone. (Release date Redemption: July 18th Total time: Eight months. B&W, seven months.)
I e-mailed my editor on July 30th to see if I could get a timeline on Black and White, because I’m a planner, that’s what I do. I didn’t hear from her, so I sent a follow up e-main August 15th. (B&W 8 months). On August 18th, we got the letter from Ellora’s Cave. We all know the one, the one that was leaked to Dear Author about the out of house editors and cover artist being let go because downsizing needed to happen. At this point a little seed of panic settles into my stomach, but I wait.
The rumors start circling and my panic takes hold. After discussing with a few different people (who are not EC related) and the input of one EC author, I decided to ask for my rights back on Black and White. It hadn’t been edited yet, there was no sign of it being edited, so on August 20th, I sent a request to get my rights back. I heard back that same day with a form response saying it could be at least two weeks before they got back to me. So I expected to wait, but I heard back later that night with the same form response: that I could get my rights back or the company could publish with line edits and without my input and that it was up to the publisher.
Now I really am panicking. Why would they do that? I’m not a big money maker. I have ONE book with them. I just want my second one back so I can get it out to the people who keep asking for it. So I wait.
I didn’t have to wait long, August 25th, I got the e-mail that said the rights were mine again. I’m one of the lucky ones. People are not getting their rights back now, even for unpublished and proposed books. I took a trip to a convention and the day I flew back was the day shit hit the fan. Dear Author posted their “The Curious Case of Ellora’s Cave.” I knew that I’d gotten out just in time.
So what does this all have to do with the lawsuit? That’s my story, here are my feelings…
When I signed for both books, I was beyond ecstatic because I finally had a publisher. It was where I wanted to be in my next step of my writing career. Now…now I just feel sad and defeated. I’ve done more for my book than a publisher had. And now this lawsuit. I read Dear Author’s post and though the facts stated in it scared me, I had heard many of the claims already in our author loop. The fact that EC decided to sue threw me for a loop. Why was a big company so worried about what a blogger had to say? A blogger who could back herself up with facts…unless they were trying to hide something ßsee that? That’s me being paranoid.
Most publishers have one or two negative articles written about them, some may have more, but not all of them are going around suing the bloggers. The thing is as authors we need bloggers, publishers shouldn’t be suing them, especially for well defended opinions. It’s gotten to the point where I no longer want to advertise for my EC book, it just sits there in the digital world collecting dust. I can’t really track my sales, so other than watching rankings on Amazon, I can’t tell if I’ve sold many. It’s October now, and I haven’t collected any royalties yet, but I can’t claim not paid yet, since I hear they are 3 months behind in paying monthly. (oh wait…let’s count those months July, August, September…so maybe next month?)
I shouldn’t be ashamed of being an EC author, but Jaid Black’s behavior is appalling, even if the suit held water, her behavior is uncalled for. Every time she opens her mouth she makes it worse. (should I state that it’s my opinion so I don’t get sued?) I think this lawsuit is ridiculous.
Before I wrote this, I wanted to hear a little bit more from both sides. The problem is, there’s not a whole lot of people standing behind EC. Be it because they are scared to speak out or because they are still on the fence. I don’t know. All I know is my story and that’s what I’m judging my feelings on. EC has left a bad taste in my mouth and now there’s nothing left to do but wait…
My heart goes out to all the authors who are suffering more from than I am. From now until this is over, I will only be sharing, supporting, and talking about my non-ec titles, which can be found on my home page.

MANscapes Journey into the light

About MANscapes
" All women - from the most exquisite beauty to the plainest drab - want to believe in the Cinderella myth. Even the harsh-faced and sour-hearted, somewhere deep in their night-time struggles with their bitterest reality, dare to dream some Prince could still see past the dense veil of unkind nature and time, to the delicate, frail-hearted beauty within."
But Clara wasn't Cinderella, waiting for her Prince, she was Sleeping Beauty poisoned by a deadly kiss. After 24 years Clara awakens from a living nightmare of abuse and discovers her life unfolding miraculously; but the true miracle is her own blossoming: the maturing of a frightened abused girl into a strong woman capable of love, laughter and joy. In Tahiti's exotic landscape Clara finds her way from darkness to incandescent light, embracing in herself the strength of choice, and the power of decision.
MANscapes is a powerful parable of hope and renewal, a story of one woman's discovery of herself and her journey into love.
Manuela Cardiga was born in Mozambique and raised in South Africa where she studied fashion design. She moved to Europe where she worked as a fashion designer, then moved to the crazy world of advertising as a graphic designer and copywriter. Manuela is a designer by profession, a cook by vocation, and a writer by compulsion. She currently resides in Lisbon, Portugal where she writes contemporary and historical fiction, designs book covers, illustrates children’s books, and mothers a gorgeous daughter while juggling a day job. She also dabbles enthusiastically in exotic, experimental cuisine, much to the discomfort of family and friends.

MANscapesClara is a young woman from a small town who comes to Lisbon to study Art. She has just begun her adventure of self-discovery in the extravagant bohemian world of the late 70’s, when her journey is abruptly cut short by a brutal rape by an acquaintance.
In the aftermath, Clara finds herself pregnant, and her family pressures her into marrying the man who assaulted her, and who claims “she was willing”. Clara is plunged into a nightmare of abuse that is to last two decades.
One day something changes. A chance encounter, a word spoken in passing by a stranger, and Clara awakens. Wakes and takes charge of her life. She frees herself of the nightmare and of her oppressor, but can she heal herself of the scars years of abuse have left on her spirit?
Determined to continue her interrupted journey, Clara goes to Tahiti to fulfill her childhood dream and “paint like Gauguin”.
On the magical island of Moorea, Clara enters a world of endless possibilities where she starts to blossom as a woman, and an artist. There, Clara meets the right man, and falls in love with the wrong one…
A return to Lisbon gifts Clara with vindication, closure, and triumph over her abuser, and yet her trials have just begun. She is about to discover the path of life rarely runs smoothly, and before she can reach for happiness, Clara must grow.
She must shed the abused girl and become a woman, capable of making the hardest of decisions, taking responsibility for herself and a new life. Setting out on the difficult road that leads to maturity, Clara must complete her journey from darkness into light.

Blog Tour: Girl in the White Pajamas
The Girl in White Pajamas By Chris BirdyTour Hosted By Ashley's Addictive Book PromotionsBlog Tour August 18th -29th
Bogie McGruder, a private investigator and Florida real estate investor, learns that his cop brother is gunned down on the streets of Boston. When Bogie and his teenage daughter return to Boston for the funeral. he finds his family reeling out of control, fueled by alcohol and mired in scandals. While home for his brother's services, Bogie is contacted by his old flame, a young Boston attorney named Bailey Hampfield, who is seeking protection from a dangerous and unknown stalker. Bailey also has yet to tell Bogie that he is the father of her three year old daughter.
What begins as a short condolence trip to Boston for Bogie, soon turns into a deepening investigation into a twisted tale of murder, deceit and family lies.
Witty and dark, The Girl In White Pajamas is an entertaining read, filled with gritty characters and broken morals.
She looked up, took in a quick breath and gasped before she said, “God dammit, Bud! What do you want from me!?” She yelled over the wind not expecting an answer to her question. Bailey shouted, “Stop stalking me!” “I want you to give me a chance. Don’t want you to do anything...” Bud stopped speaking. His heart raced, and his eyes opened wide as he heard a familiar metallic click behind him. As the trigger was engaged, he dived toward her, knocking Bailey to the ground. The bullet entered the back of his head and exited the front, taking brain and bone fragments with it. Bailey lay motionless where she had fallen with Bud’s body slumped on top of hers.“That’s the beauty of the ‘Bogie Man’. He decides when your time is up, and you’re gone, history.”
For almost twenty-five years, I did investigative work for small law firms conducting business in rough housing projects and crack house neighborhoods. I met with clients in every jail in the area even the now defunct Charles Street Jail and Deer Island House of Corrections. On good days, I got to take the .25 caliber handgun out of my pocket and the 9mm out of my purse and go to court. Then the real show began!Several years ago, while sitting in a courtroom with a client, I watched as a police officer was lambasted by an attorney. The attorney was defending a young woman who crashed her car into two other vehicles before she passed out drunk behind the wheel. The occupants of the other cars were seriously hurt and the cop, a former EMT, tried to assist the injured while waiting for ambulances to arrive. The attorney questioned the cop's every move, shredded his testimony and made him seem inept.
Embarrassed, the cop returned to his seat beside me and muttered, "Everybody lies. The judges lie, the lawyers lie, the witnesses lie.." I wanted to tell him not to worry that in about five years he'd be just as good a liar as they were.
The seeds for The Girl in White Pajamas were planted in that courtroom.
