Extract from the Science of Magic

I am currently editing book 2 'The Science of Magic'. Due out 6-Apr-2015.
Here is a short extract:

We had a pleasant evening at the Otter. There was no pressure to do anything but knowing Merlin had to leave at 10pm just took the edge off it for me. What should have been a sexy, flirty, amorous and downright dirty evening drifted into small talk, fragility and tact; in all, a dull anti-climax. When Merlin left, Marie-Claire and Melanie went back to the ‘Red Doe’; Fleur and Fey went to the ‘Grey Deer’. I went to the Star. I was looking for George. I needed some vigorous exercise. Where was George? Perhaps I should have gone with Merlin? I found George in the security room.
“Miss Smith. Is there something I can do for you? I get off in 30 minutes.”
“Yes George, as soon as you can.”
I saw Ghost on the loading bay by the kitchen. ‘Ghost can you hear me?’
‘Yes Samantha.’
‘I have a vacancy for a babysitter starting no later than tomorrow night.’
‘I will bring you 3 candidates in the morning. Is 10am ok?’
I was impressed with telepathy; but I had to be careful, as you never knew who might pick up the ‘first hello’. If I knew the correct frequency then a private conversation was assured. There was so much you didn’t have to ask. I knew straight away that Ghost was on RCP duty. He was the professional soldier. He was in good health and a very contented cat.

Another extract from 'The Sceince of Magic'

‘Good morning Samantha.’ Ghost broadcast his feelings of contentment.
‘Good morning Ghost. Have you been waiting long?’
‘No Samantha. My time is my own. I can sleep anywhere for as long as I need. I followed you from the Star. However, as soon as I knew your intentions with Teddy, I left you to your timeout and attended to other business. I have been here for about 10 minutes.’
‘How did you get here? I didn’t see any cats in town.’
‘That because you don’t look up very often. Cats use the roofs across town; it is much safer than the roads. In this town, with lots of covered pedestrian areas and pedestrian bridges, it is relatively easy. The difficult bits are the climb up and the drop down. There are always windows open or air conditioning ducts not used. This lane has a very convenient cable duct where you will find our claw marks on the cables.’ Ghost seemed slightly frustrated that I didn’t know all this. ‘Your powers of observation are sadly underused.’
‘I am still pleased to see you, despite your brusque military manners. Come up to the apartment.’
‘Some have said worse; it was my training. There are many cats living in town. They get left behind when businesses go bust. I came to make you aware of their services. They are all free. Their reward is the little treats they get from time to time.’
Ghost ran up the stairs as I opened the outside door. He was ‘on point’ as befits his habit. He dived through the gap as I opened the door to my apartment. I opened all the doors to the rooms of the apartment so that he could complete his inspection. He looked in every corner including the En-suite. He jumped into an empty box in the kitchen that Jo had left behind. ‘Sorry ma’am. Old habits die hard.’ He eventually came to rest on the end of the sofa in the lounge. He was ready to talk.

And another extract from 'The Science of Magic'

“Marco. I noticed your portfolio in reception. You recently supported a major fashion show. Did you match the hair styles to the dresses?”
“Yes. Some dresses should be marked ‘size 8 and designed for pale skin and long blond hair’. Dresses are frequently designed for a particular model. As soon as you increase the bust size, the effect of the dress is destroyed. I have a range of wigs that I designed to go with certain dresses.”
“Have you noticed the new business ’MC-Enterprises’ next to Mademoiselle?”
“Yes, the ‘made to measure’ market is buoyant at the moment. Their website is very basic. It seems to be bras only at the moment. Marie-Claire said I should talk to you about its future.”
“Did she now? That is a bit premature. It stands to reason that the demand for made to measure dresses should be the same as for bras. We would hope to produce a small number of dresses in the very near future. Would you be interested in supporting a catwalk show?”
“I would be honoured.”

Freebie book 2

The Science of Magic is free on https://www.smashwords.com/books/view... using code "EG54X"
This offer will run until 5-Nov-2015.

There are some sexually explicit scenes but these are short and a fundamental part of the story 'the sexual act creates magical essence'.

My conscience is clear over the statements on religion. I have no doubt that I am not the first to say that 'Gaia' is the soul of the Earth and is an agent of the creator. However, I may be the first to say that 'worship is not required; respect is everything. Ignore God and Gaia at your peril.'

'The Science of Magic' is exactly what it says. It is my take on how 'real magic' might be treated as a science.

The story is about Samantha, a young woman who is starting a new contract as an Analyst/Programmer. Her exposure to real magic pushes her to use her programming skills in ways she could never have dreamed. Now she must cope with the demand for her new skills and the seduction by the volatile and mercurial Merlin. Yes. This is the Merlin of the old legends; he is blessed with long life; in his case - several millennia.

A magic user must have several partners to create the essential magical essence. Merlin have several favourites and one of them, Angel, is in trouble. Samantha is manoeuvred into helping Angel.
