Rick Soetebier was born and raised in northern Michigan where he received training in his father's trade as a baker. Over the last 35 years he has worked in a variety of industries, primarily in sales with 21 years as a financial advisor. Working with people throughout his life, this book, Dating Backward, is a product of what he has learned about people, relationships and various personality traits. Over time and through a relationship and marriage that ended after 25 years, Rick started to develop some of the fundamental principles that are found in this book. It is clear from divorce statistics that people are not learning from their mistakes as they enter into new relationships. I have talked to hundreds of people about their relationships and marriages. Most of them did not realize they were making a mistake until well after they were married or in a dead end relationship for several years. Almost all of them ignored the red flags of a mediocre relationship that were present usually in the first 30 days of dating. The idea is to not have to fix a poor or broken relationship/marriage. It is to make better decisions up front about the people you date and not settle for anything less than extraordinary in your next relationship.(less)
