Eight years ago, she broke his heart and disappeared. Now she’s back, desperate for a job and hiding secrets that could destroy them both.

Isla never thought she’d set foot in Refuge Falls again, much less ask Damon for help. But with her ex’s dangerous shadow looming over her, Damon’s steady strength is her only safe harbor. As old wounds reopen and buried feelings resurface, Isla discovers the man she left behind is everything she’s ever needed.

When danger closes in, Damon and Isla must confront their past and fight for a future they never dared to dream of. But can their fragile trust survive the storm—or will the ghosts of yesterday tear them apart forever?

He saved her life. She stole his heart. Now someone wants them both dead.

The woman I pulled from that storm-ravaged highway should have been just another rescue. Instead, she grabbed my hand with desperate strength and whispered words that changed everything: "You found me. You're responsible for me now." No name. No memory. Just fear in those haunted green eyes and bruises that screamed danger. Every instinct I have as a cop—and as a man—tells me to keep her close.

Then the bullets start flying. Someone wants her dead badly enough to come after everyone I love. As fragments of her past surface in violent flashes, I realize the woman stumbled onto something deadly—something worth killing for. She's remembering, piece by terrifying piece, and each memory pulls her closer to the truth...and further from my arms. Because the woman I'm falling for might have a life waiting somewhere else. A life that doesn't include a small-town cop who's already planning forever.

A pulse-pounding Christian romantic suspense where danger ignites attraction, amnesia hides deadly secrets, and a protective hero will risk everything for the mysterious woman who captured his heart the moment he found her. Perfect for fans of Susan May Warren and Lynette Eason.

For fans of Nora Roberts and Sandra Brown comes a heart-pounding romance where second chances come with deadly stakes.

**Prologue**
UC Berkeley

December, Eight Years Ago

James Star didn't want to be here.

The Dusty Note was packed wall-to-wall with Berkeley students celebrating the end of finals, their voices drowning out whatever folk singer was currently murdering a Bob Dylan cover on the small corner stage.

James stood near the back with a water in his hand, counting down the minutes until he could leave without his buddies giving him grief about it.

He'd always preferred keeping a clear head. Even surrounded by the chaos of a college bar, he liked knowing his mind was sharp, his instincts reliable. Maybe it was the military in his blood—Walker and Reed were already SEALs, and in six months, James would follow them into the teams. Or maybe he was just wired differently than most guys his age.

Either way, water suited him just fine.

"Come on, man. It's Christmas break. Lighten up." Marcus elbowed him. "You look like you're planning an extraction instead of having a good time."

James grunted. "Maybe because I'd rather be anywhere else."

And he meant it. Four years at Berkeley had worn him down to the bone. Four years of biting his tongue in political science classes where his professors sneered at the military, where wearing anything remotely patriotic made him a target for lecture hall debates he'd stopped bothering to win. He was done. Checked out. He was only finishing the degree because his mother—God rest her soul—had made him promise he would.

The folk singer finished to scattered applause. James checked his watch. Twenty more minutes. That was reasonable. Then he could escape this place and get back to his apartment, where silence and solitude waited like old friends.

"Next up, we've got a first-timer," the emcee announced. "Give it up for Samantha Brown."

The applause was polite, nothing special. James didn't bother looking up from his water.

Then he heard the first chord.

It cut through the noise of the bar like a blade—a clean, haunting acoustic strum that didn't belong in a dive like this. James’s head came up before he could stop it.

She was tall. That was the first thing he noticed. Maybe five-nine, with long blonde hair that caught the cheap stage lights and turned them into something almost gold. She wore jeans and a flannel shirt rolled to the elbows, nothing fancy, but the way she held herself behind that microphone stand made it look like she owned the room.

She didn't own it yet. But she would.

Her fingers found another chord, then another, building something slow and aching. She stared at the microphone like it might bite her, her chest rising with a breath he could see from twenty feet away.

Then she looked up.

Her eyes found his across the crowded bar. For one impossible second, it felt like she was looking only at him—like everyone else in the room had faded to static and shadow, leaving just the two of them suspended in a moment that shouldn't have mattered but somehow did.

"You walked in tonight," she sang, her voice a low, whiskey-smooth alto that wrapped around the words like she'd lived them, "and I was gone."

James's water stopped halfway to his mouth.

Gone.

Yeah. That was exactly how he felt. Like everything solid in him had just liquefied and rearranged itself around this stranger on a corner stage. Like the ground beneath his feet had shifted in some fundamental way he didn't yet understand.

The song was country—real country, not the pop stuff that passed for it these days. Something about a love that snuck up on you, about a man who didn't know he was looking for anything until he found it standing right in front of him. Her voice climbed on the chorus, raw and powerful enough to silence the conversations around him.

By the second verse, half the bar had stopped talking.

By the bridge, James had forgotten he wanted to leave.

She finished the last note, letting it hang in the air like a question. The silence lasted two full seconds—an eternity in a college bar—before the place erupted.

James didn't clap. He couldn't move.

She smiled, clearly surprised and pleased, and stepped away from the mic. People crowded around her immediately, patting her shoulder, asking questions, some guy with a messenger bag shoving a business card at her.

"Dude." Marcus snapped his fingers in front of James's face. "You still in there?"

"Yeah." James's voice came out rough. He cleared his throat. "I'm here."

"We're heading out. Nick found a party on Channing." Marcus was already pulling on his jacket. "You coming?"

James looked at the door. Then he looked back at the girl, still surrounded by admirers, fielding compliments with a humility that looked genuine. As if she felt his attention, she turned.

Their eyes met again, and she didn't look away.

Something shifted in James's chest. Something that felt a lot like hope.

"Nah." He shook his head. "You guys go ahead."

Marcus followed his line of sight and let out a low whistle. "Her? Seriously?" He laughed, not unkindly. "Come on, man. You think she'd go for someone like you? She probably dates music producers. Guys with ponytails and feelings."

James watched her excuse herself from the guy with the messenger bag. Watched her eyes scan the room until they landed on him again.

She smiled.

And James felt that smile land somewhere in his chest and take root.

"I don't know," he said, a grin pulling at his mouth for the first time all night. "But I'm hoping."

Marcus snorted and clapped him on the shoulder. "Your funeral, buddy. Merry Christmas."

James barely heard him leave. He was already moving through the crowd, drawn toward her like something magnetic and inevitable—the way his brothers always described combat, that moment when training took over and your body moved before your mind caught up.

She met him halfway.

"Hi." Up close, her eyes were green. Definitely green. The kind of green that made him think of spring even in the dead of December. "I'm Sam."

"James." He extended his hand, and when she took it, her fingers were calloused from the guitar strings. Strong hands. Capable hands. "That song—you wrote it?"

"About an hour ago." She laughed, a little breathless. "I wasn't even sure the words worked until I started singing them."

"They worked."

The words came out more intense than he'd intended, and her cheeks flushed slightly. She tilted her head, studying him like he was a puzzle she wanted to solve.

"You don't look like my usual audience."

"I'm not." He didn't know why he said the next part, except that something about her made him want to be honest. "I was about to leave. Then you started playing."

Her smile widened, and James felt it in his chest again—that strange, unfamiliar warmth spreading inside him.

"Then I'm glad I got up there when I did."

"You want to grab something to eat?"

The words were out before he could second-guess them.

Sam raised an eyebrow, amusement flickering in those green eyes. "I should warn you—I don't usually date people in the crowd."

James flashed a grin. "That's okay. Then just grab a bite to eat with a friend."

She laughed, and the sound hit him like a cool breeze. "Are we friends?"

He nodded like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "Of course."

"I don't know anything about you."

"Easy fix." He held up a hand, ticking off fingers as he spoke. "I'm a senior. Poly sci major. My favorite color is blue. I have three brothers—two older, one younger." He paused, his voice softening slightly. "Both my parents... passed."

Her expression shifted, surprise and sympathy flickering across her face. "I'm sorry."

He nodded, accepting the words the way he'd learned to accept them—with grace, without dwelling. "Thank you." Then he spread his hands. "Now give me the rundown on you."

She hesitated, her eyes searching his. "Are you serious?"

"This is what friends do, right?"

She hesitated, then smiled. "Fine. I'm a sophomore. Music major."

"Nice." James grinned. "Favorite color?"

She rolled her eyes, but she was fighting a smile. "I can't believe I'm doing this."

He gave her his best charming look—the one Walker always said made him look like he was getting away with something. "Why not? This is how friends get to know each other."

"Fine." She sighed, but her eyes were bright. "Violet."

James nodded seriously. "I love violet."

"You just said you love blue."

"I love violet for you."

The words came out before he could think better of them, but he didn't regret them. Not when her cheeks flushed pink. Not when she looked at him like maybe—just maybe—she felt whatever this was too.

"How many siblings?" he pressed.

"One older sister. We're close."

He nodded. "And parents?"

"Still on the farm."

That told him more than she probably realized. She was a small town girl. Someone with roots and a family that stuck together. That kind of upbringing had produced someone who could write a song an hour before performing it and still make a whole bar fall silent.

"Okay, see? Not so hard." He tilted his head. "When did you start playing?"

She shrugged, but there was warmth in it now. "I can't remember. My dad always played—he taught me." She paused, her expression softening. "But I didn't start writing music until—"

"Sam."

A guy with a ponytail materialized at her elbow, holding a guitar case and wearing a scowl aimed directly at James.

"Are you coming with us?"

James looked past him. A cluster of people stood by the door—guys and girls, all with that vaguely hippie look Berkeley cultivated. They were watching, waiting.

Sam glanced at the guy, then back at James. Something flickered in her eyes—amusement, maybe. Or defiance.

Before she could answer, James extended his hand to the guy, slipping into the role like it was second nature. "Hey, nice to meet you. I'm James. Me and Sam—we go way back." He grinned. "I remember when she couldn't even play guitar."

The guy shook his hand, but his eyes were suspicious. "Really? You're from Kansas?"

"Oh yeah. Go Chiefs." James didn't miss a beat. "I go to school here now, but we haven't seen each other in a long time." He turned to Sam, letting warmth fill his expression. "Too long."

Sam's lips twitched, fighting a smile. She was enjoying this.

"Sam." The guy's voice was tight. "You promised you'd hang out with us after."

James waited, keeping his expression neutral. It was her call.

He didn't know what she'd do. Didn't have any right to expect anything. They'd known each other for all of five minutes.

But then Sam took his hand. Her fingers were warm against his, callused from the guitar strings, and James felt the touch all the way down to his bones. "Sorry, Dave." Her voice was apologetic but firm. "I haven't seen James in forever. We have a lot to catch up on."

Dave frowned, looking confused.

James wasn’t going to let there be more conversation; the decision had been made. He started moving. "It was great meeting you, Dave. We'll catch up another time."

Before Dave could protest, James was guiding Sam through the crowd, her hand still warm in his. He could feel the eyes of her friends on their backs, could practically hear the gossip already starting, but he didn't care.

Once they hit the cold December air, Sam burst out laughing.

"Go Chiefs?" She shook her head, her breath coming out in little white clouds. "You don't know anything about Kansas."

"I know they have the Chiefs." He grinned down at her. "And apparently, they also have you."

She looked up at him, green eyes bright in the glow of the streetlights, and James Star—who hadn't wanted to be anywhere tonight—found he suddenly wanted to be exactly where he was.

"So," Sam said, squeezing his hand. "Where are you taking me, friend?"

James laughed, really laughed, for the first time in months. "There's an all-night diner on Telegraph. Best pancakes in the East Bay."

"Pancakes at ten p.m.?"

"Best time for them."

She smiled, and something in James's chest cracked open. Something that had been locked tight since his mother's funeral two years ago, since his father had followed her six months later, since the world had become a colder, harder place.

He didn't know it yet—couldn't know it—but he was already falling. Already gone.

And in six months, she would break him.

Matt Trevor, single dad, and just a man trying to do the right thing for his daughter doesn't know why he agreed with the ex that he would uproot his life and move away from his hometown; she's the one who cheated on him, why does he always have to be the one to the right thing for their daughter. Well, because his ex wouldn't do the right thing, that's why.

But when his ten-year-old daughter is missing and ends up showing up in South Port ... with said woman he loves ... things start to change.
Of course, there's a South Port wedding to deal with and his daughter refuses to leave the side of the woman he told he had to put things on hold with.

As Matt navigates what is right and wrong he soon discovers ... in matters of the heart, none of that is ever very clear.

Good thing he has his friends to help him. There was magic in that beach crew from years ago; he would trust these people with his life.
As it turns out ... he just might have to.

As these beach friends find a way back to each other, they must learn to let go of what doesn’t matter and cling to the things of most value--family, love, and fun memories on the beach.

★★★★★From kindle all-star and USA Today author, Taylor Hart! The South Port Beach Series!

All Raine Birch knew about life; was that he had a lot to learn. He knew even less about God’s plan, but he did trust Pastor Henry and he was actually starting to trust himself even more in that department. When he meets a beautiful redhead from Snow Valley, Montana at a wedding, he wouldn’t lie; he wanted to date her. It annoyed him to no end she avoided him for months.

Sarah Snow felt … fragile. Maybe even borderline like she was losing her mind. She really didn’t like discussing the dreams she had of her late husband or how she felt like he was following her around. When her husband's brother shows up and asks for forgiveness and tells her he still wants to marry her, there was only one thing to do—Lie. And that lie surprised her as much as everyone around her; she was already engaged to Raine Birch.

Now, the only thing to do was to convince Raine to pretend to be her fiancé for one week. One week and then they could both be free. Or could they?

As these beach friends find a way back to each other, they must learn to let go of what doesn’t matter and cling to the things of most value--family, love, and fun memories on the beach.

New Star Bodyguard Romance Is Here 💥

Protecting Her Was His Job. Loving Her Was His Risk.

NEW Release Combat Ready Love: Inspirational Suspense

YOU GUYS… this series is absolutely stealing my heart.

I know authors aren’t supposed to say that 😅 but I can’t help it—I’m completely in love with these characters, the tension, the danger, and the swoony romance woven through every chapter.

Five years ago, Elena faked her own death to protect the man she loved.
She thought disappearing would keep Reed safe.

Now she’s back.
Standing in his office.
And asking him to help her stop a nightmare she accidentally set loose on the world.

Her top-secret project—Watchdog—was meant to protect America.
Instead, it’s been infiltrated… and could become the very thing that brings everything crashing down.

Reed is the last man she wants to put in danger.
But he’s also the only one she trusts.

He says no.
(Obviously. He’s furious. And heartbroken.)
Then… he realizes he can’t walk away from her. Not again.

If you love:
✨ protective heroes
✨ second-chance romance
✨ high-stakes suspense
✨ and a hero who would burn the world down to save the woman he loves

…this one was written for you.

The SECOND book in my brand-new Star Bodyguard Romance series is out now—and I can’t wait for you to meet these brothers. This is just the beginning, and things only get more intense from here.

Grab your copy, get cozy, and tell me when you’re done because I need to talk about this story with you.

NEW Release Combat Ready Love: Inspirational Suspense
He buried her five years ago.
Now she’s standing in his office.

Five years ago, Elena Vasquez made the hardest choice of her life—faking her death to protect Reed Star from the enemies hunting her and the surveillance technology she created. She’s spent years in hiding, watching her invention become a weapon in the wrong hands… and praying Reed would be safer without her.

But the threat has grown too big to outrun.

Out of options, Elena returns to the one man she never stopped loving.

Reed has spent five years grieving the woman he thought he lost forever. The shock of seeing Elena alive shatters everything he thought he knew. The woman in front of him is tougher, guarded—and marked for death.

With assassins closing in and old feelings roaring back to life, Reed is thrust into a deadly race to stop a global catastrophe. Protecting Elena means stepping into the crosshairs… and trusting the God who brought her back into his life for a reason.

This time, Reed isn’t letting her disappear.
And Elena may finally learn that running from love was never God’s plan.

The woman who shattered his heart is now a corporate CEO with a target on her back. Her father was murdered. Bodies are piling up around her company. And someone wants her dead next.

Walker should walk away. He knows better than to get tangled up with the one woman who could destroy him twice. But when gunfire erupts in her boardroom and he's the only thing standing between Sabrina and a bullet, walking away isn't an option.

On the run. Off the grid. And dangerously close to everything they buried.

As they race to uncover a conspiracy that connects their families' pasts, Walker and Sabrina discover that her father's secrets run deeper than either imagined—and so does the explosive chemistry they've been fighting for fourteen years.

With enemies closing in and trust in short supply, they'll have to risk everything to survive. Including their hearts.

TACTICAL LOVE is a pulse-pounding romantic suspense featuring a grumpy former SEAL, the billionaire heiress who got away, and a conspiracy that will keep you turning pages until the explosive end. Perfect for fans of Sandra Brown and Julie Garwood.

Happy Christmas Eve! FREE book!

Merry Christmas!

FREEBIE! The Stone Family Haven

Happy Christmas Eve!

I love THIS day. Of course, I love Christmas day too, but I decided that this day might be better to me than the actual Christmas Day….

I love the ANTICIPATION of Christmas.

I love having EVERYTHING DONE…..(at least I think I do😊—and staring at the tree and LOVING it. At the presents in wonderment.

I love gathering with family and friends and talking about and acting out the Christmas Story. I love hearing what all of the symbols mean, like the wise men and the GIFTS THEY GAVE JESUS….and that’s why we give gifts….and the fact that JESUS GAVE US THE GREATEST GIFT!

IT’S humbling and cool and I’m so grateful. So reverenced.

I hope you are too.

I like to ponder on what gifts I could give Jesus this coming year…..patience and love and finding joy in others and in myself are coming to mind. I love thinking about FORGIVENESS….OF others and

myself.

Wow. Deep breath. I love thinking about how Christ gave us the ability to grow and change and TRANSFORM into better people.

I love that.

Well, enjoy this FREEBIE!

FREEBIE! The Stone Family Haven
A man who has been burned too many times. A woman who’s running from her ex. Will they help each other heal and find a second chance at love?

★★★★★From kindle all-star and USA Today author, Taylor Hart! The South Port Beach Series!

Brooks Stone, FBI superhero, strike that, demoted FBI now … doesn’t want to talk about why he had a mental break a year ago. He doesn’t want to talk about his dead partner. He really doesn’t want to talk about why the tremor in his hand won’t go away. When he agrees to watch the family Inn for two weeks, he finds himself looking forward to the peace of South Port. Too bad he meets a strange woman with eyes that remind him of the ocean and an attitude so bad, she could scare off any lethal assassin, except him of course.

Serenity Rome only knew one thing about life; it was hard. Good thing she could do hard. She’d done hard when her father had left when she was ten. She’d done hard when her mother had been given the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s five years ago. And she’d done even harder when the man she’d married had turned violent and threatened to kill her. Now, as she rus for her life, all she knows is that she has to find the Conquistador’s gold. The gold her family journal proves she had claim to.

When she wakes up on a park bench, and discovers she’s face to face with Brooks Stone, one of the infamous Stone family, she has no idea why he offers to have her stay at his family Inn. She only agrees to it because it gives her an opportunity to learn more about this treasure. Not because the man is gorgeous. No. She could care less about how gorgeous he is or how he seems to see right through her lies, but wants to help her anyway. No, she doesn’t care about any of that.

As these six Stone siblings find a way back to each other, they must learn to let go of what doesn’t matter and cling to the things their parents always wanted for them--family, love, and fun memories on the beach.
