Bookshop joy!

Picture My smile in this photograph says it all.
For this, dear reader, is the beam of genuine relief and thanks....and pure author joy.
Because this, believe it or not, was the first time I have held a bookshop event to celebrate a new thriller and I was genuinely petrified no one would turn up!
Don't misunderstand. I absolutely LOVE giving talks. I've done a lot of author panels, literary festivals, writer workshops and library events over the years and I've always been well supported. But because my no...

My new thriller CLOSE YOUR EYES

Picture

I'm so delighted to share with you the gorgeous cover of my seventh thriller CLOSE YOUR EYES.
This one is extra special to me...
So what's it about? -
'It's PI Matthew Hill's job to find missing children...but this time it's his OWN daughter gone'.
As many of you will know, all my books are standalone stories....( you really don't have to have read any one to enjoy another). But regular readers will understand why I found this one tough to write!
I first introduced Matthew Hill in I AM WATCHING YOU....

My writing 'secrets' !

Ever wondered how I write my books? What I've learned over the years I've been published?
I've just had a lovely chat with author Will Shindler for his fab The Writer's Workshop podcast, discussing the ups and downs of the writer's life and sharing lots of tips.
Hope it will be helpful (- and the podcast has lots of other author interviews so you may want to check those out too).
Happy listening!

TWO MILLION milestone!

Picture Deep breath before my good news...
When I first set up this website, I was still on that difficult, long and winding road, trying desperately to get my first book deal. Do you remember the angst? The highs and the lows? My goodness, what a journey we've all shared here. Regulars will know that it took me ten years before I finally signed my first contract as an author. I've logged the highs and the lows on this blog as honestly as ...

My fourth anniversary as an author!

Picture I can hardly believe it but four years ago TODAY I became a published author at last...after more than ten years of rejection.
My first book - sold in six languages - was the contemporary domestic drama RECIPES FOR MELISSA which tells the story of a mother's belated goodbye to her daughter via a special book of recipes and letters.
It was a book written from the heart - for I lost my own mother to cancer as a teenager.
The picture here is very, very special to me; it's of a school reunion with...

My MILLION copy milestone!

Picture This is such a big moment for me, I feel more than a little tearful as I write.
My publisher Thomas & Mercer has just confirmed that in less than two years, I’ve sold A MILLION copies of my thrillers I Am Watching You, The Friend and The Promise.
To say I’m stunned is an understatement. I can’t even picture a million people. A million moments in which someone was reading (or listening to?) my work? Seriously – I used to read the tagline ‘million copy bestselling author’ and felt utterly in awe...

Barcelona, London book fair....and lots of buzz!

Picture An update here on the blog  is long overdue and I have so much news. Such a lovely, busy and buzzy time lately!
First I am not long back from an exciting trip to Barcelona to launch I Am Watching You in translation there. My lovely Spanish publisher Principal de los Libros arranged a whistle-stop visit to meet lots of journalists. There were fascinating questions about the book and we were thrilled to land a feature in the national newspaper La Vangardia as well as a slot on national radio. V...
